Summary:
This position is primarily responsible for maintaining and using equipment and supplies necessary to radiographically demonstrate portions of the human body on film and/or digital systems for diagnostic purposes. The Radiologic Technologist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Uses beam-restrictive devices and patient-shielding techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patient and staff.
- Provide radiographic examination of all body parts for diagnostic interpretation. Must exercise professional judgment in performance of procedures, applying principles of radiation protection.
- Prepares and sets up x-ray room for patient; Adjusts controls to set exposure factors, such as time and distance; positions patient as appropriate and sets up and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body area as requested by physician.
- Determines patients’ x-ray needs by reading requests or instructions from physicians.
- Makes exposures necessary for the requested procedures, rejecting and repeating work that does not meet established standards.
- Processes exposed radiographs using film processors or computer-generated methods.
- Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtains cooperation.
- Maintains patient records and files.
- Assumes responsibility for departmental quality assurance program involving the area of radiography.
- Pursues continuing education to maintain ARRT license.
- Transfers patient to and from radiology by utilizing proper transfer protocols.
- Responsible for equipment care and maintenance.
- Must be willing to stay until the last study of the day is complete and work various shifts.
- Willing to learn other imaging modalities as the company requires.
- Must be able to perform radiology duties in all remote site clinics and willing to work outside of assigned department.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and follows HIPAA guidelines.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; Must maintain AART license in good standing.
Skills Required
- Associate's degree from a two-year college or technical school
- Maintain ARRT (AART) license in good standing
- Ability to perform radiographic examinations of all body parts for diagnostic interpretation
- Knowledge and application of radiation protection, beam-restrictive devices, and patient shielding techniques
- Skill in positioning patients, adjusting exposure factors, and operating x-ray equipment
- Process exposed radiographs using film processors or digital/computer-generated methods
- Maintain patient records, confidentiality, and follow HIPAA guidelines
- Ability to transfer patients using proper transfer protocols
- Willingness to work various shifts and stay until the last study is complete
- Willingness to learn other imaging modalities as required by the employer
- Ability to perform radiology duties at remote site clinics and outside assigned department
- Responsible for equipment care and maintenance
