About the role:

As an R&D Sustaining Engineering Intern, your role is focused on optimizing and sustaining commercial intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) products used in interventional cardiology that diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease. This role offers a unique chance to gain exposure to  the lifecycle management of commercial IVUS technologies  through support of design improvement and supply continuity objectives.  You will build relationships with professionals in a diverse range of fields, inspiring people to embrace a culture of continuous improvement. Your responsibilities will include:  

As a Sustaining R&D Intern at Boston Scientific, you may perform work in the following areas:

• Design and Testing: Assist in design change activities to improve or maintain supply of commercial products including feasibility studies, test method development, and product testing.
• Problem-Solving and Compliance: Support investigations into failure modes, perform root cause analyses, and develop solutions to address technical challenges. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and standards.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project management, marketing, design assurance, manufacturing, and regulatory affairs, to ensure successful project execution.
• Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and review engineering documentation, including design change analysis, technical reports, design history files, and regulatory submissions. Present project updates and technical insights to engineers and managers.

Required Qualifications

• Must graduate between Fall 2027 and Spring 2028
• Currently pursuing a degree in Biomedical, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.

• Must be able to commit to one of the following full internship program periods: May 17th – August 6th OR May 24th – August 13th
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization

• Must have reliable transportation to and from the Maple Grove, MN (Arbor Lakes) Boston Scientific Corporate location
• Experience collaborating on an engineering project in school or in a professional environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent problem solving, communication, and time management skills
• Biomedical or anatomy experience and/or aptitude
• Basic understanding of design controls and risk management within the medical device industry

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
