- Design, configure and maintain an R&D network lab infrastructure for product Quality Assurance testing
- Work within the R&D team of the Morrisville, NC office, near the Research Triangle Park, and with VIAVI colleagues located worldwide
- Build network test environments in coordination with the application development and product management teams to emulate customer networks and support quality assurance processes.
- Write automation test code to verify the network configuration and to support the quality assurance process for product features
- Assist software development teams in the design and diagnosis of network performance criteria for systems deployed and emulated in the lab.
Qualifications:
- BS/BA degree, or an AAS with equivalent hands-on work experience
- 3+ years of experience building, configuring, and troubleshooting switched and routed Ethernet networks in a lab, test, or production environment
- Desire to support the full product development lifecycle, including system maintenance, expansion planning, and technology updates
- Experience with switched and routed networks, including configuring Cisco switches and routers via CLI and through scripting
- Solid understanding of IP routing, BGP, OSPF, static routes, and core network services such as DHCP and DNS
- Knowledge of network diagnostics, including packet analysis and monitoring tools
- Ability to rack & stack network equipment, test instruments, and compute systems
- Experience with programming languages for automation (Python and automation test frameworks)
- Experience with agentic code generation and maintenance
Additional preferred qualifications:
- Relevant certifications (CCNA/CCNP or equivalent)
- Familiarity with Ethernet test equipment (traffic generators/analyzers) and industry test methodologies (e.g., RFC 2544, Y.1564)
- Use of Atlassian project management tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo) and Git repository usage
- Experience with the use of CI/CD pipelines for test automation delivery
- Experience with virtual server infrastructure, including VMware, OpenStack, or Proxmox
- Experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) for scalable test infrastructure
