OPAL-RT Technologies is looking for an R&D Engineer, with a strong focus on Power Electronics Simulation.
Place of work : Edinburgh or surroundings, (partly remote position could be considered for strong candidates).

Main Responsibilities :
- Propose and execute power electronic engineering and R&D projects.
- Support technical, business development and sales teams with specialized expertise on power electronics real-time simulation.
- Mentor technical team to raise skill levels in power electronics simulation.
- Provide feedback on and support pre-release testing and validation of OPAL-RT’s power electronics..
- Write and present technical papers on power electronics simulation.
Requirements :
- Education : Ph. D. degree in electrical engineering (or relevant field), master’s degree holders with 5+ years of academic/industrial research experience in power electronics would be considered.
- Experience : At least 5 years of hands-on real-time simulation of power electronics or simulation
- Required knowledge : Strong understanding of power electronic, including applications, modeling and numerical methods. Strong experience with power electronics simulation tools such as OPAL-RT’s eHS, PLECS and SPS or OPAL-RT’s HYPERSIM, RT-LAB and PSCAD. Strong experience with MATLAB, Simulink and relevant toolboxes for power electronics .
- Language skills : Strong oral and written communication skills in English. French and/or German are a plus.
- Required skills: Ability to inspire confidence and gain buy-in through expertise and clear technical reasoning. Strong problem solving, design, analytical skills and out-of-the-box thinking, coming up with creative solutions on testing approaches in critical timelines.. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Proficient at writing process documentation. Highly autonomous and proactive in identifying improvements

- Hardware and interfacing experience for hardware-in-the-loop testing of power electronic controllers.

Skills Required
- Ph.D. in electrical engineering or a relevant field
- Master’s degree with at least five years of academic or industrial research experience in power electronics may be considered
- At least five years of hands-on real-time simulation experience in power electronics
- Strong understanding of power electronics applications, modeling, and numerical methods
