The Role
Design, model, prototype and test deployable antenna reflectors and spacecraft subsystems. Perform structural, thermal and mechanical simulations, build and evaluate prototypes, run environmental tests, research materials and processes, support AIT integration, document results, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advance space technologies.
Summary Generated by Built In
Do you want to help shape the future of space technology and work on research and development technology projects as well as hardware that will fly into orbit? Are you driven by hands-on engineering challenges?
Then, LSS is the right place for you!
At LSS, we’re pioneers in European deployable antenna reflector technologies, serving both domestic and international missions. We’re looking for a passionate innovative and creative R&D Engineer (m/f/d) to join our growing team.
In this role, you’ll contribute across the full development cycle — from concept design and analysis to prototyping, integration, and testing. You’ll work closely with experts in a dynamic, collaborative environment, turning innovative ideas into flight-ready solutions. If you’re ready to push the boundaries of engineering and play a direct role in advancing space exploration, we’d love to hear from you.
Tasks
* Design & Development: Create and optimize concepts for deployable antenna reflectors and other spacecraft subsystems.
* Modeling & Analysis: Perform structural, thermal, and mechanical simulations to validate designs under launch and space conditions.
* Prototyping & Testing: Build and evaluate prototypes, conduct laboratory and environmental testing (vibration, thermal vacuum, deployment tests).
* Materials & Processes Research: Investigate and qualify new materials, manufacturing methods, and space-grade technologies.
* Integration Support: Collaborate with AIT teams to transition R&D results into flight hardware and ensure manufacturability.
* Documentation & Reporting: Prepare technical documentation, test reports, and presentations for internal reviews and customer projects.
* Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, RF, systems, manufacturing) and external partners.
* Innovation Contribution: Drive technology development roadmaps, patents, and proposals for new space missions.
Requirements
* Master’s degree in mechanical or (aero)space Engineering studies, or similar.
* Minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience in the European space industry.
* Very good knowledge of structures, mechanisms and/or space systems.
* Very good knowledge of Python and MATLAB.
* Very good knowledge of SolidWorks, FEMAP, Ansys and Nastran.
* Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
* Driven and proactive professional with a strong problem-solving attitude.
* Able to work as an individual and as part of a team, to communicate effectively with a range of people, to work to tight deadlines in a logical manner and with attention to detail.
Benefits
* A challenging, fast-paced position at the forefront of space technology.
* Scope for individual development and growth in a growing multicultural team of discipline experts.
* Flexible working hours with the core time.
* A relaxed working environment with a flat hierarchy combined with a motivated and open team.
* Casual dress code.
* Open ear for all kinds of concerns.
