Job SummaryLumentum d.o.o. – Optična vlakna is looking for an early-career engineer to help develop new equipment for the automated manufacture of high-precision optical assemblies.
The role combines mechanical and mechatronic design, precision positioning, sensing, software and process automation. You will design equipment, build and test prototypes, integrate hardware and develop the control sequences needed to turn a laboratory process into a reliable production capability.
This is a hands-on engineering role with broad technical ownership. You will work closely with optical, process and manufacturing engineers while taking the equipment from initial concept through detailed design, integration and validation.
Key Responsibilities- Develop mechanical and mechatronic equipment for precision optical assembly.
- Create concepts, detailed CAD models, drawings and specifications for mechanisms, fixtures and machine assemblies.
- Select and integrate motion stages, actuators, cameras, sensors, optics and other equipment components.
- Design for positioning accuracy, repeatability, mechanical stability, accessibility and manufacturability.
- Develop automated sequences for component loading, positioning, alignment, processing and verification.
- Create software for equipment control, instrument communication, data collection and process reporting.
- Develop calibration methods and quantify system accuracy, drift, backlash and other sources of variation.
- Build, commission and troubleshoot prototypes, identifying whether problems originate in mechanics, controls, sensing, software or the process itself.
- Work with process engineers to translate laboratory requirements into practical equipment specifications.
- Support equipment validation and transfer into manufacturing.
- Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to apply them to real machines and hardware.
- Practical experience with CAD and an understanding of mechanisms, tolerances, materials and manufacturing methods.
- Interest or experience in automation, robotics, motion control, sensing or machine development.
- The ability to break a complex system into manageable functions, identify the main technical risks and test proposed solutions.
- Programming experience in Python, C++, C#, LabVIEW, PLC environments or a similar engineering platform.
- A hands-on approach to building, testing and improving equipment.
- Clear communication and the ability to work across mechanical engineering, software, optics and manufacturing.
Suitable backgrounds include mechanical engineering, mechatronics, automation, robotics, electrical engineering, applied physics and related fields. We welcome exceptional graduates and early-career engineers. University projects, internships, technical competitions, previous employment and serious personal projects all count as relevant experience.
Additional Experience We ValueExperience with precision mechanics, optomechanical design, machine vision, active alignment, motion systems, laboratory equipment or production automation would be useful.
Evidence of Technical AbilityWith your application, please include one example of a technically demanding system, machine or device that you designed, built, programmed or improved. It may come from your studies, previous employment, an internship, a competition or a personal project.
Tell us what the problem was, what you personally contributed, the main engineering decisions you made and how you verified the result. Links to drawings, photographs, code, reports or test data are welcome. We will discuss this work with you during the technical interview.
What You Can Expect From UsYou will work on a core development problem with direct access to experienced engineers, laboratory equipment and manufacturing feedback. As your understanding grows, so will your ownership of the technology. We also offer a competitive compensation package, including base salary, performance bonus, equity participation and a broad range of employee benefits.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company.
We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
