About Us

Fractal Power is a vertically integrated power company built for the modern grid. We own and operate across the entire stack, combining utility-scale energy storage infrastructure with algorithmic trading and dispatch to deliver power precisely where and when it's needed most.

We are backed by the world's leading infrastructure and deeptech investors, including Riot, Definition, and Worldbuild.

Why Join Us?

Demand for power is growing at the fastest rate since WWII yet supply is stranded behind worsening transmission and interconnection bottlenecks. The new economy requires a new model of power delivery, one that's vertically integrated, algorithmically operated, and co-located with demand.

We solve the last-mile infrastructure problem by vertically integrating across the entire value chain of American power - from greenfield development, to algorithmic optimization, dispatch, and power trading across a fleet of distributed resources - allowing us to deliver power where and when it's needed most on the grid. We have the ambition, the team, and the zeal to create the next great power company and we are looking for fanatical people to join us.

About the role

You'll own a core software platform end to end—from the user-facing tools down to the data infrastructure, compute, and services underneath. Depending on your experience and interests, your focus will be our quantitative research platform or our trading operations platform.

These platforms power how we develop, test, and execute strategies across battery optimization, DART, and FTR trading. You could be helping researchers turn ideas into reproducible experiments, or helping traders operate strategies reliably in live markets. In either area, you'll shape the architecture and drive implementation.

It's a lean team with a lot of responsibility per person. You'll work directly with quants and traders to understand their workflows, decide what to build, and ship it. There's no separate platform team to hand the infrastructure work to—ownership includes the interface, the underlying systems, and how they behave in production.

What you'll build

Your work will focus on one of two areas:

  • Quantitative research platform. Tools for developing strategies and models, running thousands of reproducible backtests and simulations, generating forecasts, and moving tested ideas into production. Fast iteration, point-in-time correctness, and traceability from research results to deployed strategies.

  • Trading operations platform. Systems for running strategies, submitting bids and dispatch requests, tracking positions and execution, and giving traders visibility and control over live operations. Reliable execution, clear operational state, and tools to detect and recover from failures.

Across either area, you'll build:

  • Data infrastructure. Pipelines for market, weather, forecast, and asset data—ingested, versioned, backfilled, monitored, and accessible to the people and systems that need it.

  • User-facing tools. Interfaces that make complex workflows easier to understand and operate, built through direct collaboration with quants and traders.

  • Reliable production systems. Workflow orchestration, versioning, observability, and CI/CD that make changes routine, traceable, and reversible.

What we're looking for
  • 5+ years building production systems, including something you took from zero to running.

  • End-to-end ownership. Comfortable owning a platform from its user-facing workflows through the backend services, data infrastructure, and production operations that support it.

  • Strong product judgment. You're building for quants and traders with no PM in between. You should be able to observe their workflows, identify what's slowing them down or creating operational risk, and turn that into useful software.

  • Close collaboration with users. Gather requirements directly, make tradeoffs clear, and iterate quickly based on feedback.

  • Technical depth and range. Experience designing data-intensive systems, coordinating complex workflows, and making production behavior observable and understandable.

  • Directness and curiosity. Understanding of quantitative trading, backtesting, or energy markets is a plus, not a requirement—but you'll need to ask good questions and learn quickly.

  • An appetite for intensity. This is a fast-moving team with substantial responsibility. You should enjoy that pace and the ownership that comes with it.

Skills Required

  • 5+ years building production systems
  • Experience taking a production system from zero to running
  • End-to-end ownership of experimentation platforms, including researcher-facing UI, data infrastructure, compute orchestration, and backtesting engines
  • Strong product ownership and ability to design tools for quants and researchers
  • Ability to collaborate directly with quants and traders and gather requirements
  • Comfort with data ingestion and storage at scale, reproducible research environments, versioning, and observability
  • Ability to ramp up quickly in quantitative trading, backtesting methodology, or energy markets
  • Understanding of quantitative trading, backtesting methodology, or energy markets
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, intense environment
