What We’re Looking For:

We’re looking for someone to lead that research — a quant who thinks like a trader, not

an academic. You should be as comfortable reasoning about liquidity, market

microstructure, and how products behave under stress as you are with the statistics

underneath them. The questions are concrete: given a book of flow, what is the optimal

way to hedge the part worth keeping? We expect the answer to come from a backtest,

not an opinion.

What You’ll Do:

This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll set the research direction and the standard for

a small, strong team, and work closely with a group of data analysts who turn questions

into evidence - but you’ll also own the hardest modelling yourself and defend it when

challenged. We care more about how you think than which tools you’ve used, and we’d

rather hire someone who reasons clearly about a problem they’ve never seen than

someone who has memorised the answer to one they have.

Qualifications:

  • Done quantitative research in markets, trading, or another domain where being wrong carries a real, measurable cost.
  • Genuine instinct for liquidity, microstructure, pricing, and how products behave - not just the theory.
  • Build models that can be explained and defended, and will declare their own model invalid when the evidence says so.
  • Work well alongside analysts and engineers and holds a higher bar for intellectual honesty than for being comfortable.

You don’t need to know our systems – we’ll teach you the business. We do expect

markets fluency, from a point of view, and the appetite to build the research capability

this desk will increasingly run on as it grows. If you’re happiest with a hard problem, real

data, and people who will tell you when you’re wrong, we should talk.

Working Schedule: Monday to Friday 09:00-17:00 on a hybrid model (3 days from the office, 2 days from home)

Skills Required

  • Experience doing quantitative research in markets, trading, or another domain with measurable real-world cost for errors
  • Instinct for liquidity, market microstructure, pricing, and product behavior under stress
  • Proven ability to build explainable, defensible models and invalidate them based on evidence
  • Hands-on leadership experience setting research direction and owning hardest modelling tasks
  • Ability to work closely with analysts and engineers and maintain high intellectual honesty
  • Fluency with market concepts and appetite to build research capability for a trading desk
