At Layup Parts, our mission is simple: deliver high-quality composite parts faster. We’re not just another composite shop, instead, we’re a technology-first manufacturing startup that’s revolutionizing how composite tooling and parts are made for the aerospace and defense industries. Our customers are developing tomorrow's high-tech products, and we are building technology to accelerate their success using scalable automation.
We’re looking for a Quality Engineer who’s passionate about precision and wants to play an important role supporting inspection, metrology, AS9100 compliance, and continuous improvement activities in a fast-paced composite manufacturing environment.
What You’ll Do:
Perform 3D scanning and metrology activities using SCANTECH NimbleTrack, or similar systems,
Create and maintain PolyWorks Inspector projects, and support dimensional and visual inspection of composite parts, assemblies, tooling, and customer hardware.
Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, and customer requirements to support inspection planning, acceptance decisions, and the creation of inspection documentation, ballooned drawings, measurement reports, and AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports (FAIs).
Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of the AS9100 Quality Management System (QMS) by managing controlled documentation, quality records, work instructions, training records, and compliance within ERP, MES, QMS, and document control systems.
Assist with internal, customer, and AS9100 audits, FOD audits, and quality reviews while helping ensure quality documentation, processes, and records remain accurate, compliant, traceable, and audit-ready.
Coordinate quality support activities including calibration tracking, employee training documentation, inspection plans, control plans, quality checklists, and initiatives that improve inspection consistency, process capability, and overall quality performance.
Support nonconformance and continuous improvement efforts by assisting with NCRs, CAPAs, OFIs, RMAs, root cause investigations, containment activities, corrective actions, and communication with internal teams, customers, and suppliers to drive lasting quality improvements.
Assist with employee training documentation, training follow-up, and updates to training materials.
Help communicate quality issues clearly and professionally with internal teams and, when needed, customers or suppliers.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on production environment
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
Must be capable of lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying on a production floor.
What We’re Looking For:
Be awesome! Be the kind of person you want to work with!
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical field.
3+ years relevant experience in metrology or quality engineering.
Experience working in an AS9100, ISO 9001, aerospace, defense, or regulated manufacturing environment.
Experience with composite manufacturing, bonded assemblies, tooling, molds, or additive manufacturing.
Familiarity with NCRs, CAPAs, RMAs, internal audits, calibration systems, and document control.
Understanding of AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports.
Familiarity with standard inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and visual inspection methods.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, inspection requirements, and basic GD&T.
Strong computer skills, including confidence working with digital systems, databases, spreadsheets, PDFs, inspection software, file management, and electronic quality records.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Bonus Points:
Experience with PolyWorks Inspector or similar inspection/reporting software.
Experience with SCANTECH NimbleTrack, 3D scanning, laser trackers, CMMs, portable arms, or other metrology equipment.
