Job Summary

Responsible for validating product quality by analyzing and testing the quality of the codebase. Makes decisions affecting architecture of the test codebase including which software to use for writing test code. Focuses on writing code that will be executed in an automated and repeatable fashion which will reduce manual testing efforts and increase code quality and consistency. Develops and maintains code that validates front-end, middleware and database systems, using the latest tools and common programming languages. Provides input into various software development lifecycle stages. Partners with software engineers to write efficient automation code using coding standards and best practices. Executes automated code and creates comprehensive execution reports for team. Repairs complex broken automation scripts and performs peer reviews of automation codebase. Has in-depth experience, knowledge and skills in own discipline. Usually determines own work priorities. Acts as resource and mentor for colleagues with less experience.

Job Description

In this role, you will have an opportunity to be a key product builder within Comcast Technology Solution’s exciting new cyber security business unit, which sells SaaS and subscription security solutions to the large enterprise and federal governments. This is a dynamic, fast-paced business unit that resides within a highly entrepreneurial division of Comcast that takes what Comcast builds internally and commercializes it for external usage. Currently, two solutions, BluVector and DataBee, both used internally by the Comcast CISO organization, are sold by the business unit. These solutions are advanced threat detection, advanced threat hunting and security operations center and compliance offerings that improve security and compliance in a cost-effective manner. 

The Quality & Automation Engineer is responsible for developing and executing on a critical portion of the new DataBee product, which is the industry’s first security, risk and compliance data fabric platform. A SaaS solution built on the top cloud-native hosting and data technology, this solution is used widely in Comcast’s security and GRC teams and has delivered tremendous cost savings as well as faster detections, less noise, and higher compliance. In this role, you will work to develop and maintain automated tests and test frameworks that ensure high product quality software without the need for manual testing. Quality & Automation Engineer works within and across software development agile teams to ensure software is designed and implemented for testability and has sufficient code and use case coverage within the test framework. They develop test plans and monitor test coverage across the product. They write automated unit, component and system tests to detect regressions early in the development lifecycle. They work with development operation teams to ensure test suites are run as part of the product’s continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Develop software to perform unit, component and system testing 

  • Develop and maintain test execution and tracking software 

  • Contribute towards architecture designs providing feedback on testability 

  • Assist in integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines 

  • Perform manual tests as required 

Experience and Skills: 

Required Skills 

  • Experience developing and implementing testing approaches for AWS-based SaaS products 

  • Experience with Python and associated unit testing framework (i.e., tox, pytest, etc.) 

  • Experience with UI testing (React testing library and Cypress preferred) 

  • Experience with CI/CD tools and frameworks (Jenkins, Github Actions, Airflow, Concourse CI preferred) 

  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes 

  • Works and communicates well in a distributed/remote team environment 

Desired Skills 

  • Experience as a software developer  

  • Bachelor's in computer science/ Engineering or related field (5+ years work experience in place of degree) 

  • Experience working for a cybersecurity company or building a cybersecurity offering 

  • Experience working in an entrepreneurial engineering environment  

  • Experience building product interoperability or integrations with various cybersecurity third party offerings

Core Responsibilities

  • Write automated test code, using the same standards as a Software Engineer, that allows for repeatable, reliable testing solutions to test the wide functionality of products and software, maintaining automation codebase in a version control system (GIT, SVN). May include creating simple SQL queries for validation of databases and / or writing SOAP and RESTful API automated scripts.
  • Create automated testing documentation, including Test Plans, Test Summary Reports etc.
  • Execute automated test scripts and presents results to team.
  • Analyze broken test cases and diagnose and repair to working order.
  • Perform code reviews of automation scripts and front-end codebases. Diagnose and repair simple bugs within production code.
  • Serve as a guide and mentor for junior-level engineers. Provides technical leadership and consultation with regards to practices, procedures and techniques.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary .
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
