Job Title

Quality Assurance Engineer IPosition Summary 
The Quality Engineer I supports GMC-North manufacturing operations by applying quality engineering principles to product, process, measurement, customer, and quality-system activities. This role works cross-functionally with Production, Engineering, Metrology, Quality, Supply Chain, and customers to investigate issues, evaluate data, improve processes, and support product conformity and customer satisfaction. 

Key Responsibilities 

Conduct statistical analysis, including process capability studies, SPC evaluation, and other appropriate statistical methods, to assess and improve product and process performance. 

Develop, implement, and continually evaluate quality assurance and quality control methods and systems. 

Develop and revise standards, procedures, work instructions, forms, and other quality documentation; support training as appropriate. 

Support internal audits and, as assigned, external/customer or supplier audit activities to verify process effectiveness and compliance. 

Coordinate and participate in material review and nonconforming product activities, including investigation, technical evaluation, disposition support, and corrective action. 

Investigate customer concerns and returned product, analyze trends, and support root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive improvement activities. 

Provide technical guidance to manufacturing and inspection personnel in problem-solving, statistical process control, and quality requirements. 

Plan, conduct, and evaluate measurement system analysis activities, including gage R&R, and support product/process capability studies. 

Work with Engineering, Metrology/CMM programming, and Operations to evaluate inspection methods, fixtures, measurement systems, and process controls. 

Review and interpret drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and applicable quality requirements to support product and process conformity. 

Support customer quality activities and serve as a Quality Engineering liaison for internal and external customers as assigned. 

Support supplier quality, contract/customer requirement review, change-control activities, and other Quality Engineering functions as assigned. 

Develop the ability to independently investigate quality issues, gather appropriate technical evidence, coordinate cross-functional actions, document conclusions, and recognize when escalation is required. 

Provide other Quality Engineering support as assigned by the Quality Manager. 

Education and Experience 

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or another related technical discipline preferred. Relevant engineering disciplines may include, but are not limited to, mechanical, manufacturing, process, industrial, materials, or similar technical fields. 

Experience in Lieu of Degree: Candidates with 2+ years of relevant quality, engineering, manufacturing, inspection/metrology, applicable internship experience or other applicable technical experience will be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree. 

Additional Credentials: ASQ certification or other relevant quality/technical credentials are valued but are not required. 

Functional / Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences. 

Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical drawings, specifications, data, and customer requirements; working knowledge of GD&T is preferred. 

Working knowledge of mechanical inspection, measurement systems, or metrology concepts is preferred. 

Working knowledge of statistical techniques such as SPC, capability analysis, sampling, and measurement system analysis is preferred. 

Demonstrated problem-solving ability, including the ability to gather evidence, identify potential root causes, evaluate risk, and develop practical solutions. 

Ability to work effectively in a hands-on manufacturing environment and collaborate across Production, Engineering, Metrology, Quality, Supply Chain, and other functions. 

Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office; experience with quality, manufacturing, SPC, ERP/MES, or database systems is beneficial. 

Ability and willingness to learn applicable quality management systems and customer-specific requirements. Experience with ISO 9001, AS9100, internal auditing, corrective action, or similar quality systems is beneficial but not required. 

Demonstrates sound judgment, ownership, curiosity, attention to detail, and willingness to ask questions and escalate concerns when appropriate.
