Position Summary
The Quality & Safety Manager leads ISO 9001:2015 compliance, workplace safety, and production quality within an industrial motor and rotating-equipment repair environment. This is a highly hands-on role, spending approximately 75% of the time on the shop floor working with technicians and supervisors to improve quality, safety, and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
Quality & Shop Floor Oversight
- Conduct daily quality inspections across production areas.
- Ensure repairs meet customer specifications, procedures, and internal standards.
- Perform in-process and final inspections of motors, generators, pumps, and rotating equipment.
- Manage NCRs, corrective actions, rework, quality escapes, and customer complaints.
- Lead root-cause investigations and drive corrective improvements.
Safety
- Conduct daily safety inspections and identify unsafe conditions or practices.
- Lead investigations of injuries, near misses, and property damage.
- Ensure OSHA compliance and proper PPE use.
- Audit forklift, crane, rigging, electrical safety, and housekeeping practices.
- Lead toolbox talks and safety meetings and stop unsafe work when necessary.
ISO 9001 & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain ISO 9001:2015 documentation and quality records.
- Conduct internal audits and coordinate external ISO audits.
- Manage corrective/preventive actions and calibration programs.
- Drive 5S, workplace organization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Track quality and safety metrics while reducing rework and warranty costs.
Training & Leadership
- Train employees on quality and safety requirements.
- Coach supervisors and technicians on best practices.
- Support new-hire onboarding and promote accountability across the shop.
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of experience in industrial manufacturing, motor repair, rotating equipment, machining, or a related environment.
- Strong knowledge of quality systems and workplace safety.
- Hands-on experience working within a production or repair facility.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong communication, coaching, and leadership skills.
Preferred
- ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor Certification.
- OSHA 30 Certification.
- EASA motor repair experience.
- Experience with AC/DC motors, generators, pumps, or other rotating equipment.
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
Performance Expectations
Success in this role means maintaining ISO 9001 compliance, improving shop-floor safety and organization, reducing rework and quality escapes, and establishing strong quality and safety accountability throughout the facility.
This is not an office-based management position. The Quality & Safety Manager is expected to be a visible, hands-on presence on the production floor every day.
