The Role
Board Intelligence are looking for a QA Automation Engineer to join our growing team and become the quality expert embedded within one of our product councils. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams from feature conception through to delivery, ensuring quality throughout the development lifecycle whilst contributing to our automation frameworks and testing practices.
This is an individual contributor role where you'll have autonomy and ownership over quality for your product council. You'll be hands-on with both automation and manual testing, working independently to manage multiple workstreams and building strong relationships with your product team over the course of a year.
Main Responsibilities
Testing & Automation
- Write high-quality automated tests using our TypeScript/Cypress (web) and Java/Appium (mobile) frameworks, contributing new tests regularly
- Contribute to improvements of our existing test frameworks
- Maintain and enhance test suite reliability and effectiveness
- Debug, monitor, and resolve automation pipeline failures
- Perform manual testing: ticket verification, test case management, and regression testing
- Identify opportunities to automate manual tests and improve test coverage
Embedded QA Within Your Product Council
- Act as the sole QA representative within your assigned product council for typically a year-long engagement
- Build strong relationships and credibility with developers, product managers, and stakeholders
- Participate in refinement sessions from the earliest stages, influencing quality from the start
- Manage stakeholder expectations and communicate quality status clearly and confidently
- Handle multiple concurrent workstreams effectively within your council
Quality Contribution
- Follow and help evolve our defined QA processes and standards
- Contribute ideas for process and tooling improvements
- Collaborate with the wider QA team on shared approaches and learning
- Stay curious and ask questions to ensure thorough test coverage
Requirements
Experience & Skills
- 4+ years of QA experience with strong focus on test automation
- Solid hands-on experience with end-to-end automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, WebDriver, Appium)
- Experience writing clean, maintainable test automation code
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and how testing fits into deployment processes
- Comfortable with both automated and manual testing approaches
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Proven ability to work autonomously and take ownership of quality for workstreams
- Experience working in Agile environments embedded within product teams
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Highly Desirable
- Experience with TypeScript/Cypress or Java/Appium specifically
- API and contract testing experience
- Understanding of test design patterns and best practices
- Mobile app testing experience
- Familiarity with bug tracking tools (e.g., Jira) and test management
