Python Lead Software Engineer — Functional Testing Framework (Electronic Trading Flows)
We have an opportunity to impact your career and provide an adventure where you can push the limits of what's possible.
Join a team where your engineering decisions directly influence the reliability and integrity of global electronic trading systems. At JPMorganChase, you'll work alongside experienced engineers who are passionate about quality, resiliency, and innovation — in an environment that values your ideas and invests in your growth. Here, you'll have the opportunity to shape how we test and validate mission-critical trading flows at scale, while building skills that span distributed systems, CI/CD, and regulated financial technology.
As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within Markets Technology, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You will be responsible for building and evolving a strategic functional testing framework that validates end-to-end electronic trading flows — engineering for resiliency and determinism, ensuring test evidence is auditable and reliable, and designing controls suitable for operating in a highly regulated environment. As a core technical contributor, you will work closely with application, platform, and risk teams to drive quality across multiple product lines and support the firm's business objectives.
Job responsibilities
- Execute creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with the ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
- Develop secure and high-quality production code, and review and debug code written by others
- Lead the design and build-out of a strategic functional testing framework to validate electronic trading flows end-to-end, including order lifecycle validation, venue connectivity simulation, market data handling, and downstream post-trade validations
- Define and implement framework architecture for test authoring, orchestration, environment management, deterministic execution, and reporting
- Integrate the framework into continuous integration and delivery pipelines to improve release confidence and accelerate delivery while maintaining strong engineering controls
- Partner with application and platform teams to onboard services, define test contracts, and improve testability through clear interfaces and repeatable test patterns
- Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues — such as flaky tests, environment drift, and test data problems — to improve overall operational stability
- Collaborate with DevOps engineers to deploy and operate scalable execution infrastructure, enabling parallel test execution, reliable scheduling, and performance-aware test runs
- Collaborate with Cybersecurity and Risk partners to ensure safe handling of test inputs and outputs, data sensitivity controls, and evidence retention aligned to resiliency and security expectations
- Drives team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes (e.g., AI-assisted code review/refactoring, test strategy acceleration, incident/root-cause analysis support), while establishing consistent validation standards (secure coding, peer review, automated testing) and promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team
- Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and advanced applied experience
- Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
- Proficiency in Python or equivalent programming language, with demonstrated ability to build production-quality code
- Experience building or operating testing frameworks for distributed systems and/or real-time applications
- Proficiency across all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
- Advanced understanding of agile methodologies, including continuous integration and delivery, application resiliency, and security
- Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment (e.g., for coding, test creation, troubleshooting, or documentation) with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security
- Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; ability to guide peers on safe and effective usage within team practices
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Experience with functional testing on distributed or event-driven systems
- Familiarity with electronic trading concepts such as order lifecycle management, market data, and trade capture
- Experience with test data management, service virtualization, and audit-ready evidence reporting
- Infrastructure-as-Code experience and familiarity with scalable execution platform design
- Experience with microservices performance tuning and optimization
