Position Summary:
The Public Relations and Communications Manager will join the Marketing and Communications (MarComms) team at OceanX, supporting day-to-day needs related to public relations and strategic communication objectives. As the manager of public relations, this team member will play an important role on the marketing and communications team, driving earned media and thought leadership objectives that support the wider OceanX visibility, understanding, and brand affinity goals.
The ideal candidate will have experience both on the PR agency side, and working in-house in a PR-focused role. Preferred if the candidate has some experience with other cross-functional communication and marketing tactics and teams. Reports to the VP of marketing and communication as a key member of that team.
Position Location:
This position will be based in Singapore and will require flexible working hours (for meetings with stakeholders in the United States).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with the VP of marketing and communications and agency partners to develop a strategic earned media approach that builds OceanX visibility and understanding among key audiences.
- Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for our agency partners, securing and providing all necessary feedback to facilitate story pitching, interview scheduling, spokesperson briefings, and more.
- Curate existing and develop new press materials as needed, including talking points, key issue areas overviews, interview briefing documents, press releases, case studies, and more.
- Work with internal stakeholders to secure needed inputs and approvals of communication materials, and ensure all content adheres to OceanX’s brand guidelines and voice.
- Work with the media team to secure press-worthy photos that illustrate our missions and work.
- Create shot lists for upcoming initiatives; Develop and manage and organizational system for approved press/marketing photos and videos to allow ongoing successful communication of organizational work.
- Help plan and execute press events and speaking opportunities, including internal inputs and approval, development of needed materials, and staffing of key spokespeople.
- Regularly source new potential story angles and details from internal stakeholders on science, education, partnerships, and media teams to facilitate OceanX visibility.
- Own reporting of press and communication performance, reviewing and sharing press clips with context, raising issues with VP of marketing and communication, and compiling and sharing successes. Compile monthly PR reports for internal distribution. PR agency coverage reports, and ensure smooth alignment with our internal reporting systems.
- Other public relations and communication activities, as needed.
Qualifications:
- Professional Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in public relations, strategic communications, or related field, plus 5+ years of experience in a public relations role
- Demonstrated success in earned media planning and execution
- Experience in key message development, spokesperson training, interview staffing, and agency management
- A strong understanding of news value and story angle development
- A diplomatic approach with the ability to bridge competing stakeholder priorities to build consensus
- Comfort and past success working in a high-volume environment with competing deadlines
- Excellent written and oral communication ability

Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation for the role includes a competitive salary, and an excellent benefits package, including a comprehensive employer paid medical plan and CPF.
