Senior Program Manager, Engineering Operations

Since our start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has been focused on building the World’s Most Experienced Driver in hopes of improving the world's access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. Our Waymo Driver powers Waymo One, our fully autonomous ride-hailing service, as well as Waymo Via, our trucking and local delivery service. To date, Waymo has driven over 20 million miles autonomously on public roads across 25 U.S. cities and conducted over 20 billion miles of simulation testing.
As its name suggests, our Engineering Operations team plays a vital role in the creation and development of Waymo's autonomous driving technology. Engineering Operations complements automation by providing the human expertise necessary to build HD maps, label perception data, and ensure the safety and efficacy of the Waymo driver by evaluating real-world and simulated events and building test scenarios, all done with extraordinary levels of accuracy.
In this role, you’ll:
- Partner with functional leads to develop the strategy and departmental roadmaps for Safety Evaluation in Simulation sub-organization
- Program manage sub-org’s annual budget planning, operational and quarterly business reviews, quarterly goals planning and tracking, to enable delivery against business goals
- Improve current organizational policies & procedures and cross-departmental communication & coordination, to elevate organizational performance at scale
- Effectively communicate strategic goals and status to senior leadership and broader organization
- Own and manage critical projects, cross-functional and strategic initiatives from development through successful execution, based on emergent business needs
- Proactively identify new program opportunities and high impact process & tool improvements, leveraging technical and business acumen and cross-functional knowledge
At a minimum we’d like you to have:
- BA/BS degree in technical, or business discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- 7+ years project/program management experience
- Experience in creating strategy roadmaps, opportunity sizing, forecasting, and conducting quarterly business reviews
- Experience managing complex technical / operational / cross-functional programs
- Ability to work well with a variety of people and levels across different job functions and departments
- Excellent written and oral business communication skills
It’s preferred if you have:
- Familiarity with autonomous vehicles technology domain
- Exceptional problem-solving, strategic, and analytical skills, combined with strong business acumen
- Ability to identify ambiguous problems, develop effective solutions and implement them
- Extensive stakeholder management experience, demonstrated ability to create effective relationships, in particular without direct authority
