As a Project Manager, you will lead the scoping, design, construction, and commissioning of large capital projects within the distribution electric utility sector. Under general direction, you will oversee all aspects of assigned projects, often multi-year and high-profile, ensuring quality, budget, and schedule objectives are met. Acting as an owner’s representative, you will safeguard the client’s interests, provide sound advice, and make informed decisions on their behalf. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage cross-functional, multi-location project teams using proven project management methodologies.

In this role, you will take ownership of the full project lifecycle, including planning, execution, and delivery. You will act as an owner’s representative, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget while aligning with business goals. This position requires a strong understanding of project controls, scheduling, cost management, and stakeholder communication.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage construction projects from planning and startup through execution, closeout, and turnover.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, estimates, budgets, schedules, and forecasts.
  • Develop and monitor detailed project schedules, milestones, and critical-path activities.
  • Monitor project costs against estimates and identify and address potential cost overruns.
  • Review project performance, labor productivity, budget status, and financial forecasts.
  • Coordinate closely with superintendents and project engineers to ensure field activities align with project requirements.
  • Manage subcontractor performance, including scope, schedule, coordination, change orders, invoicing, and issue resolution.
  • Identify, document, and communicate project risks, potential claims, and change-order requirements.
  • Manage change orders and incorporate approved changes into project schedules and budgets.
  • Maintain project documentation, including daily logs, inspection reports, permits, quality records, and safety documentation.
  • Monitor project quality and ensure work meets contractual, regulatory, and performance requirements.
  • Support project safety requirements and reinforce a strong safety culture throughout project execution.
  • Conduct regular coordination meetings with project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
  • Review project costs, projections, invoices, and labor productivity to maintain financial performance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and provide regular communication regarding project progress, risks, changes, and upcoming activities.
  • Manage and provide direction to project engineers, superintendents, and other assigned project personnel.
  • Coach and develop project team members while establishing clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations.
  • Support project closeout and ensure systems, equipment, documentation, and deliverables are completed in accordance with project requirements.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of construction project management, project engineering, or related field construction experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience supporting or managing large, complex construction projects, preferably $20M+.
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, sequencing, field operations, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Experience managing project budgets, estimates, forecasts, cost reports, and financial performance.
  • Experience developing and managing construction schedules and critical-path activities.
  • Demonstrated experience with change orders, project risk, claims documentation, and contract administration.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating directly with superintendents and project engineers.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple project priorities and communicate with field teams, clients, subcontractors, and senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience directing and developing construction project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing construction projects valued at $20M or greater.
  • Experience managing Project Engineers, Superintendents, or other construction personnel.
  • Strong background in project cost control, forecasting, and labor productivity analysis.
  • Experience managing complex subcontractor scopes, change orders, and contract requirements.
  • Experience working directly with owners and senior client stakeholders.
