We’re looking for a Staff Project Manager to join our team in Costa Rica. This role requires a strong combination of technical expertise, project management, leadership, and business acumen to provide project-level leadership across our rapidly growing technology portfolio.

The ideal candidate will have a background in design or process engineering, along with strong project management and customer-facing skills. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication abilities are essential. The ability to seamlessly shift between technical details and strategic, big-picture thinking will be critical to success in this role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Project & Program Management

  • Lead complex, cross-functional medical device projects from proof-of-concept through production transfer.
  • Develop and manage project scope, schedules, budgets, resources, deliverables, and risks.
  • Lead cross-functional teams through a structured Stage-Gate product development process.
  • Facilitate project meetings and effectively communicate project status, metrics, risks, and key decisions.
  • Integrate and manage multiple related projects while balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Build strong relationships and influence technical Subject Matter Experts through technical credibility and collaboration.

Customer-Facing Skills

  • Build and maintain strong, transparent relationships with external customers while protecting company interests.
  • Lead customer discussions, negotiations, and alignment of requirements and expectations.
  • Develop and deliver effective technical and business presentations.
  • Communicate clearly and respond effectively to unexpected or sensitive situations using sound judgment and negotiation skills.

Business & Financial Skills

  • Understand internal and external business models, performance metrics, and financial drivers.
  • Manage project budgets and evaluate financial considerations using tools such as P&L, NPV, IRR, gross margin, and cost modeling.

Medical Device Expertise

  • Demonstrated experience in medical device development, preferably in areas such as minimally invasive, cardiovascular, orthopedic, or surgical devices.
  • Strong knowledge of FDA and ISO requirements, quality systems, design controls, and Stage-Gate processes.
  • Working knowledge of statistical methods used in medical device development, including sampling plans, process capability, measurement systems, reliability, and confidence intervals.

Technical Abilities

  • Foundational knowledge of mechanical engineering, materials science, biomedical engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with device design, analysis, testing, and/or process engineering.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with and influence technical SMEs to achieve project objectives.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor´s degree in technical field related to engineering or science. MS in Project Management is a plus.
  • Minimum 6 years of end-to-end project management experience in a regulated environment.  
  • PMP Certification and/or Professional Project Management Certificate. 
  • English communication skills, written and oral (B2+)

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of engineering and project management principles.
  • Developing proficiency in problem-solving methodologies, group leadership, and complex coordination.
  • Statistical knowledge is preferred.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical documents, respond effectively to sensitive inquiries, and interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to collect and evaluate data, establish facts, and draw sound conclusions.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and work effectively with both abstract and concrete variables.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or another related technical field
  • At least 6 years of end-to-end project management experience in a regulated environment
  • PMP certification and/or professional project management certification
  • English communication skills, written and oral, at B2 or higher
