The role – what you’ll do
Barr seeks a project manager – information systems to join our Minneapolis, Minnesota, team. In this hybrid role, you will support the Information Systems group by leading large-scale technology projects (such as ERP systems, enterprise data platforms, and infrastructure upgrades) and collaborating with the team to drive these projects to successful completion on time and within budget. You will use your project management skills to manage the delivery of technology initiatives, work with technology leaders across the organization to coordinate a new IT project intake process and a centralized project tracking system, and help ensure that technology projects are aligned with organizational strategy and resources. Additionally, you will develop and mature IS formal project management practices.
A successful person in this role has excellent leadership skills. They are an exceptional communicator and enjoy using their leadership and team coordination skills to manage cross-functional project teams and vendor relationships. They also have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, focusing on detail, organization, and results.
Key responsibilities
Technology prioritization: work with technology leaders to coordinate the new technology prioritization and intake process, helping ensure the transparent evaluation of project requests.
Portfolio oversight: oversee the centralized tracking of all active and backlog technology projects, maintain an up-to-date portfolio view, and report on project status and resource allocation.
Project leadership: lead the planning and execution of large-scale IT projects (e.g., ERP implementations, data platform builds, and major infrastructure upgrades) using Microsoft DevOps, collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project objectives.
On-time delivery: apply rigorous project management methodologies to help ensure all assigned projects are delivered on schedule, within scope and budget, and to the required quality standards.
Stakeholder engagement: collaborate with business stakeholders and department leaders to identify technology needs, define project scope, and communicate progress and risks throughout the project lifecycle.
Process improvement: develop and refine project management processes, tools, and best practices for the Information Systems group to improve efficiency and consistency.
About the opportunity
Compensation: anticipated range of $110,000–125,000 annually. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Hybrid: a hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office.
About you – required core competencies
Education: bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, business administration, or a related field with an expectation of continuous learning.
5+ years of related experience:
Managing information technology projects, including full lifecycle oversight of the technology aspects of complex initiatives.
Leading large-scale system implementation projects (such as ERP or enterprise software deployments) from initiation to successful completion.
Proven knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., Waterfall and Agile).
Communication: exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities, including experience reporting to senior leadership and facilitating project governance.
Software: proficiency with project portfolio tools (Monday.com, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms).
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
Helpful additional experience (not required)
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or other relevant project management certification.
Experience in developing or working within a project management office (PMO) environment, especially in setting up project intake or governance processes.
Prior experience in engineering, environmental consulting, or a similar industry, particularly managing IT projects that support those business operations.
Familiarity with IT demand management or portfolio management practices, and the ability to balance multiple project requests with resource capacity.
