The Project Manager III manages, plans and coordinates the full life-cycle of projects for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), specifically for the Office of Food Policy and Response (OFPR). This position helps to ensure that the goals and objectives are accomplished within the prescribed timeframe and funding parameters.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS  

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required customer clearance for access to systems, facilities, equipment and property.   

  •  A current Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification is a plus.

  • Leads full life‑cycle project management for FDA’s Office of Food Policy and Response (OFPR)
  • Plans, coordinates, and executes projects within defined scope, timelines, and budgets
  • Conducts requirements gathering, develops project charters, WBS, schedules, and timelines
  • Prepares and communicates project status reports, risks, and issues
  • Applies project management best practices and federal regulatory knowledge
  • Coordinates across diverse government stakeholders with varying needs and priorities
  • Drives process improvements and implements best‑in‑class planning, scheduling, and budgeting practices
  • Facilitates meetings and ensures clear communication among teams and leadership
  • Produces high‑quality reports, documentation, and presentations
  • Utilizes Microsoft Office and project management tools effectively
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, organization, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills
  • Works independently and in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Requires ability to obtain/maintain federal clearance; PMP certification preferred

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

 

Assists OFPR with project planning activities such as collecting information, developing project plans / timelines, and determining resources.
Manages the full life-cycle of projects from early stages to completion.
Develops and establishes project scopes and plans using project management software. Determines timeframes, milestones and an agreed upon deadlines.
Schedules meetings when necessary. Provides meeting schedules, meeting minutes and routine reports to the project team leaders and team members. In a timely manner, conducts post-meeting follow-up activities concerning discussions and action items.

Tracks progress, and documents milestones / timeframes for deliverables. Develops project plans and timelines for each assigned deliverable using appropriate software.
Keeps Office Director, Deputy Director and Senior Leadership apprised of progress. Flags potential obstacles.

Gives updates on working group deliverables and other routine reports by the requested deadline.
Supports Project Working Group Leads by scheduling meetings and other group activities within the requested timeframe, and by ensuring that scheduled events take place.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE 

Bachelor's degree preferred and a minimum of seven (7) years relevant project management experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Regularly required to sit. Regularly required use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms to handle objects and operate tools, computer, and/or controls. Required to speak and hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.

The estimated pay range for this role is $100K to $135K, with the final offer contingent on location, skillset, and experience.
