Project Engineer (Aerospace)

 

Whippany Actuation Systems, a fast-paced and innovative aerospace manufacturer specializing in electromechanical actuators for both commercial and military applications, is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical professional to join our team as our newest Project Engineer. In this role, you will oversee and manage all aspects of various technical projects encompassing the entire lifecycle of custom electro-mechanical actuation solutions used in commercial aerospace and military applications. 

 

In this role, you would typically:

  • Create product designs to endure aerospace environments including high vibration, temperature variations, fluid and other contaminant exposures.
  • Develop stress analyses such as gear bending and fatigue, bearing life, Finite-Element Analysis (FEA), and other dynamic and static stress analyses using aerospace accepted/preferred techniques as needed.
  • Optimize designs by taking advantage of various additional software packages available for CAD modeling, stress analysis, tolerance stack-up, etc. while developing component/assembly models considering expected manufacturing processes and their respective effect on each design.
  • Design assemblies and components which include gears/splines, environmental or EMI sealing, load paths, fasteners, springs, electronics integration, packaging, etc.
  • Work with the cross-functional integrated product team and customers to develop product solutions that meet both customer and internal requirements.
  • Demonstrate understanding of various aerospace grade materials and associated properties, as well as various post-processes typically used on various materials in the aerospace industry for wear resistance, corrosion protection, surface/sub-surface material defect detection, insulation, etc.
  • Communicate with a variety of internal and external customers, sharing information with the team, and articulating technical information for a variety of audiences.
  • Assist with product development and scheduling product development.

 

We require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 3 years’ engineering experience working in a high technology manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using CREO and CAD.
  • Proficiency with MS Suite.
  • Authorization to work in the US.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. Whippany Actuation Systems will require proof of status before employment.

 

We would really like to see:

  • Master’s degree in mechanical, electrical or aerospace engineering.
  • Experience designing and troubleshooting electro-mechanical assemblies and components.
  • Knowledge of environmental testing in accordance with military and aerospace specifications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office products including MS project.
  • Proficiency with PTC Creo CAD (or similar CAD experience) and MATHCAD.
  • Familiarity with DOORS requirement management software.
  • Familiarity with aerospace grade materials and MIL specifications.
  • Familiarity with aerospace grade electronic circuit card design.

 

 

Compensation and Benefits:
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $90,000 to $135,000 per year. Final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. If hired, the employee will be in an “at-will position.”
