Primary Responsibilities
- Develops and implements projects which improve the profitability, operability, reliability, safety, and environmental performance of the St. James Plant in accordance with Business Plan and Plant Specific objectives
- Plans and leads the efforts of the project team through the development and execution of projects
- Develops the scope of projects, evaluating options, and obtains management approval
- Obtains funding for the projects
- Opens, manages, and closes projects in SAP and periodically reports status to management
- Reports progress and forecasting costs on a regular basis
- Prepares bid specifications, evaluates bids, and selects engineering and construction contractors
- Monitors/manages the design and construction of projects to ensure that they are engineered and built according to key project plans and company standards
- Monitors/controls the cost and timing of projects to keep expenditures and schedules within the limits authorized by management
- Manages the start-up of projects and project closure activities in a safe and timely manner so that project benefits can be fully realized
- Provides turnaround support, troubleshooting, and engineering analysis
- Performs other duties as assigned or needed
Job Requirements
- 3+ years' experience in a chemical processing or refinery environment
- Strong commitment to personal safety
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with an exceptionally broad array of people having diverse backgrounds encountered during the life of a project
- Broad generalized knowledge of chemical, civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control engineering
- Broad generalized knowledge of industry design codes, standards, and practices
- Broad generalized knowledge of personnel safety, process safety, and environmental principles/regulations
- Project management and administrative skills necessary to plan, organize, coordinate, and control the development and execution of a project – including cost and schedule control
- Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Excellent technical and problem-solving skills to identify alternatives to challenges presented and select the most appropriate solution with minimal guidance or precedence
Preferences
- Experience with Instrumentation and Electrical type projects is preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred
- Knowledge of a structured project management or project development and execution process a plus
