We are seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer with strong experience in chemical manufacturing to support capital projects and operational excellence initiatives. The role involves full lifecycle project management, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver on business goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and execute CAPEX projects up to $1.5M USD to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and capacity, including conceptual and detailed engineering, equipment and service cost estimates, CAR submittals, budget management via EPIC and SAP, and interdepartmental coordination to minimize production impact.
  • Design and specify equipment, piping, instrumentation, and PSV systems; create P&IDs and detailed design drawings; coordinate with vendors and contractors for equipment/material selection and procurement.
  • Manage compliance and safety documentation for projects, including MOCs, PHAs, DSRs, PSSRs, LOTO, CSE, PSI, HW, and SWP across all project phases; ensure safe project execution, commission equipment, and provide start-up support.
  • Develop new procedures and train site personnel on installations and operations; ensure spare parts inventory, PM plans, and ongoing system reliability.
  • Support EHSQ functions by participating in PHAs, conducting safety permit reviews (LOTO, CSE, hot work), maintaining PSI accuracy, assisting with incident investigations, supporting regulatory audits, and driving MI program improvements.
  • Support facility and infrastructure maintenance projects including building repairs, painting, roofing, concrete/asphalt improvements, utility systems, and site grounds maintenance, ensuring integrity and compliance of site infrastructure.
  • Provide daily plant and production support including timely evaluation and completion of equipment/process change requests and troubleshooting to enhance reliability and productivity.
  • Support local and regional projects as needed, ensuring adherence to Evonik PM/PR and BTD capital investment procedures.
  • Contribute to long-term strategic goals by implementing priority projects, meeting annual CAPEX budgets, supporting 5-year capital planning, advancing compliance-based initiatives, and sustaining continuous improvement of safety and MI programs.

REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Project management, cost estimating, and project implementation expertise.
  • Experience with PHA, HAZIDs, HAZOPs, and compliance with OSHA CFR 1910.119 PSM and EPA RMP regulations. (Preferred)
  • Equipment and relief system design, sizing, and specification expertise.
  • Knowledge of DCS control systems and highly hazardous chemical handling (e.g., methyl chloride, DMS, DES, benzyl chloride, DMAPA). (Preferred)
  • SAP experience and strong computer skills including Microsoft Office 365; Aspen Plus or other simulation software experience.
  • Ability to work independently, handle heavy workloads, prioritize tasks, and apply engineering and business principles.
  • Exceptional teamwork, organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
