Overview

As a Project Engineer at Alliance Laundry Systems, you will lead the capital projects that change how we build our products — new equipment, new assembly systems and new processes — from justification through installation and start-up.

You will own your projects end to end: defining scope and scale, building the business case and the budget, specifying and selecting equipment, coordinating vendors and contractors, holding the schedule, and staying on the floor through commissioning until the line runs the way it should. You will work daily with production, maintenance, quality, purchasing, planning and other engineering functions.

The projects you deliver will make the plant safer, the product better, the process faster and the cost lower.

Responsibilities
  • Lead capital projects for new equipment, new assembly systems and new processes — from concept through installation, commissioning and start-up
  • Define project scope and scale up front, and manage change to both as the project develops
  • Build and own the project budget: develop cost estimates and justifications, submit capital appropriation requests, and track actual spend against plan
  • Build and hold the project schedule; keep several projects moving at once and raise risks early
  • Define equipment requirements, evaluate vendor proposals, and manage vendors and outside contractors through installation
  • Work with production and maintenance to bring new equipment to a like-new operating standard, and keep it there
  • Specify tools, jigs and fixtures to support new and existing production
  • Select and implement manufacturing processes that build a quality product at competitive cost
  • Develop process documentation, including visual work instructions, and train operators on new equipment
  • Support production day to day — troubleshoot process and equipment issues alongside the floor
  • Identify and deliver reductions in scrap, rework and cycle time
  • Examine equipment, processes and operations to find opportunities in safety, quality, throughput and cost
Qualifications
  • 2+ years in project engineering or project management
  • One of the following: a BS in engineering or engineering technology; a BS in business or project management, with demonstrated hands-on experience delivering capital projects; or, in lieu of a degree, 5+ years of hands-on experience delivering capital projects in a manufacturing environment
  • Able to define and manage project scope, scale, schedule and budget
  • Basic working knowledge of 3D modeling software
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment and systems, and the engineering principles behind them
  • Comfortable on the production floor, and able to communicate clearly with operators, maintenance, vendors and leadership
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office
Nice to Have
  • Experience delivering capital projects in a manufacturing environment
  • Continuous improvement experience — Lean, root cause analysis, FMEA, Kaizen facilitation, process mapping or capability studies
  • A track record of measurable cost, scrap or cycle-time reduction

Physical Requirements:

This role splits between desk-based design, planning and analysis work and regular time on the production floor. Expect standing, walking, bending, stooping, manual dexterity and occasional lifting up to 40 pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be considered.

  • Ability to define and manage project scope, scale, schedule, and budget
  • Basic working knowledge of 3D modeling software
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment and systems and related engineering principles
  • Ability to work on the production floor and communicate clearly with operators, maintenance, vendors, and leadership
