Position Overview

Certerra Instrumentation and Monitoring, LLC is seeking a motivated Project Engineer to join our Instrumentation and Monitoring Group based in Ozone Park, New York. The Project Engineer will support and manage geotechnical and structural monitoring programs for complex infrastructure and construction projects. This position involves a combination of field coordination, technical data review, and project management responsibilities related to the installation and monitoring of instrumentation systems used to measure structural movement, vibration, settlement, and subsurface conditions.

The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering foundation, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work in both field and office environments while coordinating with clients, contractors, and internal teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Review contract documents, project specifications, and drawings to develop instrumentation and monitoring plans.
  • Coordinate and oversee the installation of monitoring instruments including inclinometers, piezometers, vibration monitors, crack gauges, settlement points, and automated monitoring systems.
  • Review and analyze monitoring data to identify trends and potential construction-related impacts.
  • Prepare technical reports, monitoring summaries, and project documentation for clients and project stakeholders.
  • Assist with development of monitoring thresholds, alert systems, and response procedures.
  • Coordinate with field technicians, subcontractors, and project managers to ensure timely installation and operation of instrumentation systems.
  • Conduct site visits to verify instrumentation installations and support construction monitoring activities.
  • Interface with clients, engineers, and contractors to communicate monitoring results and project updates.
  • Support proposal development and assist with preparation of instrumentation scopes for upcoming projects.

Education/ Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related engineering discipline (required).
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
  • 2–5 years of experience in construction, geotechnical engineering, structural monitoring, or related field preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) required; experience with AutoCAD or data visualization tools is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work in a fast-paced construction environment
  • Willingness to perform field work and travel to project sites throughout the New York metropolitan area.
  • Valid Drivers license, vehicle also preferred but not required

Work Environment 

  • Office-based in Ozone Park, NY, with frequent visits to active construction sites throughout the region.
  • Combination of office engineering tasks and field coordination activities.

Skills Required
