Scope of Position
- The Project Engineer supports the Program Management team in the planning, coordination, and execution of engineering projects and division-wide change management initiatives. This position serves as a key cross-functional resource, coordinating activities between Engineering, Quality, Production, Purchasing, Maintenance, Finance, and other departments to ensure projects and changes are implemented effectively, on schedule, and in alignment with customer and business requirements.
- The Project Engineer will play a key role in managing the impact of product, process, equipment, tooling, and documentation changes throughout the division. This position will track project milestones, coordinate action items, facilitate cross-functional meetings, maintain project documentation, and ensure required approvals and deliverables are completed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline; equivalent education and relevant experience may be considered.
- 3–5 years of experience in a technical or engineering role within the automotive manufacturing industry, with project management or cross-functional project experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 requirements.
- Working knowledge of APQP and AIAG Core Tools.
- Experience with engineering changes, change management, or project coordination preferred.
- Familiarity with CNC machining and automotive manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of presses, machining, material handling, inspection/gauging, toolroom, and metal finishing equipment is an asset.
- Proficiency with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks or DraftSight.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and other PC-based applications.
- Strong project management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to facilitate meetings, coordinate cross-functional teams, and present information to various levels of the organization.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and drive accountability across functional areas.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English.
- Support the Program Management team in planning and executing assigned projects and initiatives.
- Lead and coordinate division-wide change management activities, ensuring changes are properly evaluated, communicated, approved, implemented, and sustained.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams through engineering changes, process changes, equipment changes, and other business initiatives.
- Develop and maintain project timelines, action plans, milestones, and deliverables.
- Track project progress and communicate status, risks, issues, and required actions to Program Management and leadership.
- Facilitate cross-functional meetings and ensure action items are clearly assigned and completed.
- Evaluate the impact of proposed changes on quality, production, capacity, tooling, equipment, cost, timing, and customer requirements.
- Coordinate required documentation, approvals, trials, validations, and implementation activities associated with changes.
- Support APQP activities and ensure appropriate quality planning is incorporated into projects and changes.
- Lead or support continuous improvement and problem-solving activities.
- Work with Engineering and Operations to develop practical solutions to product and process issues.
- Support the implementation and commissioning of new equipment, tooling, and processes.
- Prepare sketches, layouts, CAD drawings, presentations, and other technical information as required.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, engineering records, CAD files, and change-related documentation.
- Coordinate with customers, suppliers, engineers, buyers, and internal stakeholders as required.
- Support quoting activities and cost evaluations for assigned projects.
- Prepare and deliver project updates and presentations to management and customer personnel as required.
- Support efforts to improve internal and external quality performance, including reduction of PPM and other key performance indicators.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
