Job Title: Project Engineer - Defense, New Product
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Division/Department: GHM/Engineering
Level of Work: Level II
Position Summary:
This position combines developing novel ideas with proven methods to design and develop the next generation of vacuum and heat exchanger equipment for submarines and surface ships. This position requires end-to-end engineering and development from concept to manufacture. This position requires extensive customer interaction, technical writing, mathematical, and analysis skills.
Key Results Areas by Level of Work:
Level II: Service – Coordinating “production” with problem solving and prevention
Resource Management (material and people)
- Coordinates engineering activities required to develop new vacuum and heat exchanger equipment from concept through manufacture.
- Works collaboratively with internal teams, customers, vendors/suppliers, and other stakeholders to establish technical scope and requirements.
- Supports cross-functional coordination to ensure engineering objectives and project requirements are effectively communicated and executed.
- Maintains a collaborative relationship with internal and external stakeholders throughout the engineering and development process.
Resource Scheduling, Output Management and Reporting
- Successfully plans and implements engineering objectives within established timelines and work schedules.
- Develops and maintains technical documentation, reports, procedures, specifications, and work instructions as required.
- Provides timely and accurate technical communication regarding engineering activities, project requirements, and results.
- Maintains a high degree of accountability for meeting commitments and completing assigned work on time.
- Notifies appropriate personnel when established timelines cannot be met and communicates alternate plans as necessary.
Continuous Improvement
- Develops novel engineering solutions by combining innovative ideas with proven engineering methods.
- Defines problems, collects and analyzes data, establishes facts, and develops effective engineering solutions.
- Applies engineering judgment and mathematical analysis to support design and development activities.
- Identifies opportunities to improve engineering processes, designs, and methods.
- Applies appropriate engineering tools and analytical methods to support problem solving and prevention.
Equipment & Process Maintenance
- Supports the design and development of vacuum and heat exchanger equipment for submarines and surface ships from concept through manufacture.
- Creates and interprets technical drawings and 3D CAD models in support of engineering activities.
- Performs engineering calculations and analysis as required to support equipment design and development.
- Applies applicable technical specifications, standards, procedures, and engineering requirements to assigned projects.
- Supports technical corrective actions and works with customers and other stakeholders to establish and address technical requirements.

Education and Training
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering
Experience
- 3+ years of experience

- Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain government security clearance
- Must be willing to work overtime as required

- Work Environment: This job primarily operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets. While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is also exposed to high level of manufacturing and equipment noise. Duties are performed indoors in a manufacturing environment with temperature changes. Exposure to hazardous materials, fumes or airborne particles and moving mechanical parts with vibration.
