About the Role

APCO is seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious Project Consultant to join our Indonesia team, working closely with Singapore as the regional anchor. This role is designed for an early-career professional who is proactive, resourceful and driven to perform at a high level.

APCO operates on a stakes-first, issues-driven model—bringing together intelligence, advocacy, communications and strategy to help clients navigate risk, shape policy environments, and influence outcomes that matter.

The Project Consultant will support integrated public affairs, communications and strategic advisory mandates at the intersection of business, policy and society. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and dependable, with a genuine interest in strategic communications, current affairs, and public affairs, and the ability to turn awareness of media and political developments into meaningful client insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Service and Delivery
    - Craft compelling, high-quality deliverables—issue monitoring reports, news digests, policy memos, briefing books, press releases and pitch decks—that keep clients informed and ahead of the curve.
    - Support and manage day-to-day client communications, coordinating meetings, preparing materials and tracking progress as a trusted point of contact.
    - Support account leads by coordinating timelines and project workflows, ensuring nothing slips through the cracks.
  • Business Growth Support
    - Keep a sharp eye out for new opportunities by tracking RFPs and monitoring potential leads relevant to the practice.
    - Contribute to proposal development through background research and thoughtful, strategic input.
    - Support research into prospective clients and market opportunities across Indonesia and the wider region.
  • Media Relations Management
    - Provide guidance and counsel on media strategy.
    - Tap on, and leverage existing media contacts, relationships, and networks to advance client’s narrative in the market.
    - Manage high-stakes media relations efforts, helping clients tell their stories with clarity, credibility, and impact.
    - Develop compelling storylines and pitching angles.
    - Secure media coverage and compile clipping reports to demonstrate the effectiveness of outreach efforts.
  • Market Monitoring and Insight
    - Monitor and interpret media, government, and political developments in Indonesia, delivering timely updates that shape client strategy and response.
    - Keep a close watch on current events and media trends, translating that awareness into meaningful insights for clients.
  • Team Collaboration and Growth
    - Contribute actively to internal and client meetings with sharp insights and thoughtful suggestions, helping move work forward.
    - Bring a positive attitude and fresh perspective as a collaborative team player across internal discussions and client engagements.
    - Take on additional responsibilities as they arise, with a growth mindset, agility and excellence.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 2–3 years of professional experience in public affairs, government relations, policy strategy, or strategic communications, ideally in a consulting, corporate, or institutional context.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and professionally.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, attention to detail and effective time management.
  • Genuine interest in current affairs, policy issues and global industry trends.
  • Proactive, curious and quick to learn, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to take on diverse responsibilities and client needs.
  • Fluency in English and Bahasa are required
  • Familiarity with media monitoring tools, stakeholder mapping, or advocacy work is an advantage; prior exposure to political campaigns, advocacy, or communications internships is a bonus.
