What We're Looking For:
Michael Baker International is seeking a Project Accountant to provide full life-cycle project accounting support to Project Managers. This role is responsible for project financial analysis, contract compliance, project setup and maintenance, revenue recognition, and project performance monitoring. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative business partner who can provide meaningful financial insights and support project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
This position is remote, with a preference for candidates located in the Central Time Zone.
What You'll Do:
• Analyze project financial performance and provide insights on project health, risks, and opportunities.
• Identify potential project performance issues and communicate findings to the Regional Project Accounting Manager.
• Coordinate project setup activities to ensure compliance with contract requirements and Michael Baker approval policies.
• Review contracts and understand project scope, billing terms, funding requirements, and project structures.
• Maintain project records within Oracle and manage project funding and budget updates.
• Prepare monthly project reporting and provide detailed financial commentary on significant projects, including unbilled and unearned revenue analysis.
• Participate in project performance review meetings and provide financial guidance to project teams.
• Support Project Managers and Department Managers with financial information, proposal support, pricing analysis, budgeting, audits, and special projects.
• Monitor outstanding accounts receivable and partner with Project Managers on collection efforts.
• Assist in resolving invoicing issues and developing corrective action plans to improve payment timing.
• Ensure project revenue recognition complies with company policies and accounting standards.
• Support the financial review of projects, including evaluating cost-to-complete estimates and the appropriateness of revenue recognition.
• Assume ongoing project accounting ownership of these projects, providing full life-cycle financial oversight and support to Project Managers.
What You Need To Succeed:
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in accounting, finance, project accounting, or a similar role.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with Project Managers and business leaders.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certification.
• Experience supporting internal or external audits.
• Experience with Oracle Project Accounting modules or a comparable ERP platform.
• Previous experience supporting project-based businesses, engineering, consulting, or professional services organizations.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $71,000 - $85,000. Actual compensation will be based on factors including education, experience, qualifications, skills, and geographic location.
