ARC, in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation, serves the community by offering access to licensed childcare and a variety of recreational and lifelong learning programs, classes, and activities. As the Childcare Program Substitute, you will provide staffing support for ARC's licensed school-age and preschool programs across multiple sites. This includes providing a quality childcare experience for children aged 3-12 in accordance with the philosophies and procedures of the organization and the policies of the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Family Services (DCYF). The person in this role reports to the Area Operations Supervisor.

 

Childcare Program Substitute duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead classroom operations, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for children ages 3–5 (preschool classroom) or 6-12 (school-age classroom)
  • Keep notes and observations on individual children when needed
  • Maintain a staff-to-child ratio of 1:10 to ensure the safety, supervision, and well-being of all children
  • Promote an environment where individuals take pride in their cultural identities, beliefs, and practices and value those of their peers

 

Childcare Program Substitute requirements:

  • Seattle Preschool Programs (SPP) requires a bachelor’s degree or higher, verified as “approved” in MERIT:
    • Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a related degree field

OR

    • A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college, verified as "approved" in MERIT, AND at least 30 approved ECE quarter credits verified through MERIT (up to 10 of these may be ECE-School Age hybrid credits)

 

Work Location:

  • Various Community Centers in Seattle
  • HQ Location: 300 Elliott Ave W., Seattle, WA 98119

 

Pay:

  • Starting Pay: $28.00/hr. (non-exempt)
    Full Pay Range: $28.00-35.00 (with continued employment, the employee in this role may earn up to $35.00/hr. with additional years of service)

Skills Required

  • School-age childcare programming experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field verified as approved in MERIT
  • OR bachelor's degree plus at least 30 approved ECE quarter credits (up to 10 may be ECE-School Age hybrid) verified in MERIT
  • MERIT verification showing approved credentials
