Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Sr. Program Specialist, the Program Specialist is responsible for developing meaningful community connections for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. He/she will accomplish this by developing resources in the community in which they live where they can participate in community inclusive recreational and leisure activities of their choosing. The Program Specialist will support individuals to reach their highest level of independence through community connections and activities; treat them with respect; and honor individual rights.  He/she will provide the support necessary for the persons we support to achieve their desired lifestyles and increase levels of independence, productivity, and social/physical inclusion into the community. This includes: developing and assisting with the person-centered planning process, supervise the implementation of daily program activities and community experiences. Complete necessary daily documentation, as well as follow-up documentation.

Essential Functions:Preparation for Change:
  • Support individuals in planning and preparing for life transitions.

  • Actively listen to their interests to guide exposure to new activities and teach necessary skills.

  • Identify supports needed for success and help develop Person-Centered Plans (PCPs).

Community Integration & Participation:
  • Plan and implement inclusive community experiences based on individual goals and preferences.

  • Accompany individuals on outings, ensuring safety, engagement, and inclusion.

  • Teach essential community living skills such as money management, shopping, and social interaction.

  • Maintain required documentation and adhere to agency policies during outings.

  • Build strong relationships with families, providers, and community members.

  • Model positive behavior and promote work readiness and social inclusion.

Personal & Health Care:
  • Provide respectful assistance with daily living and personal care tasks both on-site and in the community.

  • Ensure a safe environment, monitor for health concerns, administer medications accurately, and respond to emergencies appropriately.

  • Maintain grooming standards and supervise individuals 100% of the time.

  • Follow agency procedures for incident reporting and emergency preparedness.

Communication & Documentation:
  • Accurately complete required documentation in the Electronic Health Record System (EHR), including activity logs, medication records, and behavior support.

  • Attend and participate in all required meetings, trainings, and workshops.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and regulatory agencies during audits or investigations.

  • Promote teamwork, effective communication, and shared problem-solving.

Managerial Duties:
  • Ensure adequate staffing and coverage aligned with program and individual schedules.

  • Supervise staff performance, communication, and professionalism.

  • Provide guidance and training to staff on employment skills, behavioral supports, and individual rights.

  • Act as a liaison with community partners and agencies to support individual goals.

Program Planning & Operations:
  • Develop and implement PCPs and Behavior Plans in coordination with the interdisciplinary team.

  • Complete timely reports (e.g., quarterly reports) and maintain confidentiality.

  • Keep program areas organized and supplies well-managed.

  • Ensure accurate data collection, behavioral plan compliance, and staff training.

General & Administrative:
  • Review and maintain attendance and PCP documentation in the EHR system.

  • Ensure timely completion of all required regulatory reports and paperwork.

  • Arrive on time, use work hours productively, and follow all agency procedures.

Supervision:
  • Participate in hiring, training, and evaluating staff.

  • Oversee completion of all training and certification requirements for assigned team members.

  • Provide direct supervision and ongoing support to ensure staff accountability and quality service delivery.

You are the Ideal Candidate If:
  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College or University and one years' experience in providing service to adults with Intellectual Disabilities or a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years' experience working with adults with Intellectual and Developmental disabilities, with at least one of those years’ experience being supervisory experience.

  • Must be computer literate and have excellent oral and written skills

  • Must have strong communication skills

  • Must be dependable and reliable

  • Must have computer skills and be able to use all required software

  • Must have ability to problem-solve and assist in decision-making, including during emergencies

  • Must maintain current status regarding assigned core competencies and other required certification acquisition within established schedule and timeline

  • Must meet the criteria to be an approved driver for the Arc of Prince George's County and have reliable transportation

  • Must have the ability to work productively with individuals and other team members to develop relationships

  • Must possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills and good customer service skills

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field
  • One year of experience providing services to adults with intellectual disabilities
  • High school diploma and two years experience working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, one year of which is supervisory
  • Computer literacy and excellent oral and written skills
  • Ability to problem-solve and assist in decision-making
  • Current status on assigned core competencies and other required certifications
