You will report directly to our General Manager and you’ll work out of our South Africa office on a full-time basis.
The Branch Leader is responsible for the successful execution of large-scale automation and digitalization projects across Sub-Saharan Africa. The role provides leadership across project execution, team management, commercial performance, and customer engagement across a portfolio of projects.
The role will lead a team of Project Managers and is accountable for delivery across key customers including utilities, energy, mining, and industrial clients in the region. The position plays a critical role in ensuring disciplined project execution, protecting margin, maintaining customer confidence, and supporting order conversion and future growth opportunities.
Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Execution & Team Management
Oversee the execution of complex automation and control system programs across Sub-Saharan Africa, ensuring delivery within scope, schedule, and budget.
Provide direct leadership to Project Managers and ensure:
- Clear accountability across the project portfolio
- Consistent application of Honeywell project governance standards
- Development and mentoring of PM capability within the team
Maintain overall accountability for delivery performance across the portfolio and ensure Project Managers deliver across all phases:
- Engineering design and system integration
- Procurement and equipment delivery
- Site construction and installation
- System commissioning and start-up
- Final customer acceptance and project close-out
Drive performance management, resource planning, and capacity alignment across the project delivery organization.
Financial & Commercial Management
Maintain full accountability for project financial performance including:
- Budget tracking and cost control
- Margin protection and improvement
- Forecasting and Estimate at Completion (EAC) updates
- Risk and contingency management
- Change order management and claims
Own the commercial performance of the branch, including contract management, variation negotiations, and customer commercial engagements.
Ensure strong cash flow management including invoicing, collections, and working capital discipline.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
Serve as the senior Honeywell delivery interface with key customers across the region.
Maintain strong relationships with:
- Customer engineering and operations teams
- EPC contractors and site construction teams
- Honeywell engineering, supply chain, and services teams
Engage at both operational and executive levels to strengthen partnerships and position Honeywell for future opportunities.
Manage customer expectations, escalations, and commercial discussions to ensure successful program outcomes.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Coordination
Lead a team of Project Managers and oversee multidisciplinary teams across engineering, commissioning, supply chain, project controls, and field services.
Coordinate closely with:
- Engineering teams responsible for CBMS, DCS, control systems, and instrumentation
- Lifecycle Support Services (LSS) teams supporting installed systems
- Sales and business development teams for opportunity shaping and order conversion
Provide leadership, direction, and mentoring to Project Managers and site teams, ensuring strong accountability and performance.
Business Development Support
Support Sales and Business Development teams in bid shaping, solution positioning, and proposal development.
Provide execution input into bids to improve competitiveness and ensure realistic project structuring.
Contribute to conversion of opportunities into orders across key accounts in the region.
Actively engage with customer leadership to identify upcoming opportunities, influence early project definition, and support conversion of opportunities into orders.
Risk Management & Governance
Identify and proactively manage program risks related to schedule, cost, technical integration, safety, and customer expectations.
Drive disciplined use of project governance tools and processes including scheduling, risk registers, project reviews, and execution planning.
You Must Have
- 10 to 15 years of experience in project or program management within industrial automation, power generation, or infrastructure environments.
- Demonstrated experience managing large, complex capex projects (multi-million USD scale).
- Demonstrated experience leading teams of Project Managers or managing a project delivery function
- Experience leading or overseeing multiple projects or a portfolio of projects.
- Experience working in site-based execution and commissioning environments.
- Strong commercial acumen with proven ownership of project margin, EAC, and financial outcomes.
- Experience managing complex customer programs with multiple stakeholders.
- Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies.
We Value
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification.
- Experience operating in matrix organizations and cross-regional teams.
- Experience with industrial automation technologies (DCS, PLC, instrumentation, building management, etc.).
- Experience supporting business development, bid shaping, or sales-led project environments.
- Strong leadership and people management capability (including managing Project Managers).
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage complex technical projects in high-pressure environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
