About Us:

Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) is a global Jewish human rights organization that confronts antisemitism and hate, defends the safety of Israel and Jews worldwide, and teaches the lessons of the Holocaust through awareness, advocacy, justice, education, and its Museums of Tolerance. In 1993, the Center opened the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles to worldwide acclaim. The Museum has served as the Center’s flagship educational arm, challenging visitors to confront bigotry and racism, and to understand the Holocaust in both historical and contemporary contexts. In addition, the Center developed Moriah Media to produce theatrical documentaries to educate global audiences. Moriah has produced 17 documentaries to date, two of which have received the Academy Award for best feature documentary, The Long Way Home and Genocide.

About the Mobile Museum of Tolerance:

The Mobile Museum of Tolerance is a traveling educational experience that brings immersive programs on antisemitism, civil rights, media literacy, and civic responsibility directly to schools and communities. 

Through interactive technology, storytelling, and inquiry-based learning, MMOT programs help students explore questions of identity, bias, and democratic responsibility in the modern information environment. 

The Hawaiʻi Mobile Museum of Tolerance (HMMOT) expands this mission across the Hawaiian Islands, delivering programs in Holocaust education, media literacy, civic engagement, anti-bias education, and human rights education. 

The work will be done with deep awareness of and respect for the cultures of Native Hawaiians and the many ethnic groups that are well-established in Hawaii, as well as those that are recent arrivals. Through collaboration with local educators, cultural practitioners, schools, and community organizations, HMMOT seeks to deliver programming that is responsive to Hawaiʻi's unique cultural, historical, and educational landscape. HMMOT believes that Hawaii’s multiethnic mix, in which no one race predominates, offers a unique and powerful platform for anti-hatred and anti-discrimination work. 

Position Summary:

The Program Manager serves as the primary on-the-ground leader for HMMOT in Hawaiʻi, overseeing statewide program educational offerings, partnerships, legislative relationships, logistics, and community engagement.

This role ensures the successful delivery of programming across the Hawaiian Islands while honoring Hawaiʻi’s cultural context, Indigenous history, and community voices through relationship-driven and place-based implementation.

The Program Manager acts as a key representative of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Hawaiʻi and must demonstrate ongoing commitment to cultural awareness and attentive, humble engagement with local communities. 

Essential Responsibilities:

Program Operations & Implementation

• Lead the day-to-day coordination of HMMOT programming across Hawaiʻi with attention to consistency, quality, and local responsiveness.
• Manage two Education Associates, supporting their work, training, and growth.
• Manage statewide scheduling and deployment of mobile museum experiences across islands in alignment with school and community needs.
• Serve as the primary liaison for schools, educators, and community partners throughout program delivery.
• Coordinate facilitator scheduling, travel logistics, and site readiness to ensure smooth and respectful program execution.
• Maintain accurate data systems for participation, outcomes, and reporting.
• Monitor program quality across all engagements with attention to participant experience and cultural relevance.

Relationship Management & Community Engagement:

• Build and sustain authentic, long-term relationships with:

  • Hawaiʻi Department of Education
  • Public, private, and independent schools
  • Higher education institutions
  • Community-based organizations
  • Cultural practitioners and cultural organizations
  • Government and civic partners
  • Faith-based and youth-serving organizations
• Engage partners through collaborative and reciprocal practices that respect local knowledge and lived experience.  
• Participate in community listening sessions to ensure programming reflects community perspectives, priorities, and lived realities.  
• Support advisory groups and networks that include local community representation and expertise.  
• Represent HMMOT at statewide events and convenings as a respectful and accountable partner.
• Serve as a visible ambassador of the Simon Wiesenthal Center with deep respect for Hawaiʻi’s cultural identity and historical context.  

Program Growth & Outreach:

• Identify opportunities to expand programming across all Hawaiian Islands in ways that are responsive to community readiness and local interest.
• Support outreach efforts that prioritize relationship-building over transactional engagement.
• Contribute to annual planning and regional growth strategies grounded in local context and community partnerships.  
• Collaborate on storytelling and impact reporting that reflects community voices and cultural authenticity.  
• Support launches, open houses, and funder visits that reflect respectful engagement with local communities.  

Data, Evaluation & Reporting:

• Track participation, outcomes, and engagement metrics across statewide programming.
• Maintain accurate reporting systems with attention to transparency and accountability.
• Prepare regular reporting for leadership, funders, and stakeholders.
• Support grant reporting and stewardship requirements.
• Analyze participation trends to inform continuous improvement and local responsiveness.

Cross-Department Collaboration:

• Collaborate with Education & Content, Operations, Development, Communications, and Finance teams.
• Participate in organizational planning and Hawaiʻi statewide strategy discussions.
• Support curriculum refinement and pilot program development.
• Ensure alignment between national strategy and Hawaiʻi-based community needs and cultural context. 

Qualifications:

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Communications, History, Social Sciences, or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in program management, education, nonprofit leadership, or community engagement.
• Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
• Strong communication, organization, and project management skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to education, inclusion, civic engagement, or human rights work.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel statewide, including inter-island travel.

Preferred:

• Managing and supporting educators.
• Experience working within Hawaiʻi’s educational systems or community landscape.
• Understanding of Hawaiʻi’s diverse cultures, history, and current reality. 
• Experience in museum education or experiential learning environments.
• Familiarity with Holocaust education, anti-bias education, civic engagement, or media literacy.
• Experience working with government agencies and community-based organizations.
• Grant reporting, event planning, or stakeholder engagement experience.

Working Conditions:

• Frequent statewide travel across Hawaiʻi, including inter-island travel.
• Occasional evening and weekend programming.
• Work in schools, community spaces, and field-based environments.
• Ability to lift and transport program materials up to 25 pounds.

During the first year, the Program Manager will:

• Successfully launch and implement HMMOT programming across Hawaiʻi in alignment with community needs and cultural context.  
• Build trusted relationships with educators, schools, and community partners grounded in reciprocity and respect.
• Achieve program delivery and participation goals.
• Establish reliable systems for scheduling, reporting, and communication.
• Ensure programming reflects Hawaiʻi’s cultural integrity and lived experience of local communities.  
• Contribute to a culture of respect, learning, and continuous improvement.
