Description
The Finished Goods Production (FGP) department consists of assembly and packaging processes to create finished goods that are ready to be warehoused and distributed to customers. The duties of this position include but are not limited to part assembly, packaging, clean up, maintenance of related equipment, counting inventory, assisting the surface finishing department as needed, assisting warehouse, transferring finished goods to warehouse, etc.
The surface finishing department consists of preparing items for the assembly and packaging department. The surface finish of a product is the finish that beautifies and protects the material of the product while in use. In our case the use is the end user enjoying quality Cognito product on their vehicle. Surface finish can be plating, painting, powder coating, etc. To prepare the surface it must be prepared by deburring, media blasting, cleaning, de-scaling, de-oiling, etc. In the case of Cognito, product is primarily deburred, media blasted, and powder coated.

Requirements
Accuracy; assemble, process or package to department requirement with consistency and accuracy. Follow all processes in both steps and in principle, meaning “strive for the desired outcome” beyond just adhering to steps, by consciously working to mitigate mistakes.
Quality; thorough inspection of parts for defects, inconsistencies, accuracy, quality, and quantity prior to beginning surface preparation. For painters, thorough inspection parts to be sure they are ready to be painted. Proper baking time and temperature for each type of part. No mistakes; correct parts, correct quantities, high quality.
Competency: pay attention, be aware of what you’re doing and the required outcome for your work and be able to identify problems create/suggest solutions and improvements, report them to your manager in writing.
Efficiency/consistency; every second/minute counts, be as productive as possible without sacrificing any of the above attributes.
Responsibility: when appropriate, follow the Detailed Bill Of Operations (DBOO) document for the part that is being processed.
Skills Required
- Accuracy in assembly, processing, and packaging to department standards
- Thorough inspection of parts for defects, quality, and correct quantities
- Competency to identify problems, suggest improvements, and report issues in writing
- Efficiency and consistency while maintaining quality standards

- Perform surface preparation tasks such as deburring, media blasting, de-oiling, and cleaning
- Perform finishing processes including powder coating, painting, and plating and follow proper baking times/temperatures
- Assist warehouse operations, transfer finished goods, count inventory, and maintain related equipment
