POSITION SUMMARY:
With minimal supervision and through interaction with other plant management, the Production Manager develops, maintains and continuously improves policies, procedures, programs, and processes designed to provide effective leadership, direction and management of Fort Wayne Manufacturing. This responsibility includes participating in the planning and implementing of actions required to provide quality PHD products to Customers on time while striving to most effectively utilize PHD’s manufacturing resources to minimize costs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participating in the development of approved plans, policies, and procedures for Operations
- Assisting in the managing of plant resources, i.e., human, technical, materials, capital assets, and financial which meets or exceeds manufacturing cost objectives and customer satisfaction
- Hiring, developing, and maintaining an effective workforce
- Effective budgeting, planning and expense control across all plant functions
- Ensuring the implementation of custom product, new product, and product redesign processes into the manufacturing facility in a timely and cost-effective manner
- Maintaining processes to support environmental and safe workplace standards
- Provide supervision, coaching, and mentoring to plant supervisors and team leads.
- Must be able to implement strategic goals and objectives into functional organizational plans, processes, systems and structures and assist in the implementation of these plans in the accomplishment of effective organizational change.
- Consistently meet or exceed goals for customer service, on-time delivery, quality, and cost control.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY
- Strong working knowledge of production capacity planning, equipment, staffing, continuous improvement, budgeting, employee development, labor law, and quality systems.
- Working understanding of how sales, manufacturing systems, product engineering, HR, finance, and project management support production operations.
- Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, leadership, and cross-functional partners.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including coaching, setting direction, and developing people at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to set clear expectations, hold others accountable, and lead by example.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- May encounter contact with chemicals used on the production floor such as lubricants, coolant, etc.
- Extensive time is spent in an office and on the manufacturing floor, both of which are climate controlled
- Time is spent in front of a computer screen keyboarding and manipulating a mouse
- Troubleshooting could be done on the manufacturing floor around various types of machinery which include moving parts, chemicals, coolant, and by-products of material being formed
- Due to the nature of metal working, may encounter mists/dusts/odors on the production floor.
- Higher level of noise on the manufacturing floor as opposed to the office setting
- One level with concrete floors, no steps, stairs, or inclines
- Rubber/foam mats are present in the machining and assembly areas
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Extensive periods of sitting, rotation of wrists, repetitive hand motions.
- Manual dexterity, reaching with hands/arms.
- Frequent standing and walking.
- Minimal lifting up to 25 lbs.
CRITICAL SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of 10 years' experience in manufacturing management or supervision.
- A bachelor’s degree in a business-related field or possess 3-6 years manufacturing management experience.
- Previous experience in management of union and non-union environments is highly recommended.
