Summary:

The Assistant Production Manager’s role is to plan, organize and control production to ensure that parts are produced efficiently, on time, within budget and to standard. Responsible for providing training and facilitating process improvements as needed to ensure World Class Manufacturing.

Oversee the production process to ensure products are produced on time and are of good quality Display willingness to make decisions; exhibit sound and accurate judgment; Support and explain reasoning for decisions; include appropriate people in decision-making process; make timely decisions Solve practical & sometimes complex problems which may entail a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; look for ways to improve and promote quality; apply feedback to improve performance; monitor own work to ensure quality. Create and maintain a world class standard for quality workmanship Follow and enforce all plant safety rules and procedures and maintain a safe and healthful working environment where zero lost time injuries are expected standard of work by all Magna Body & Chassis employees Maintain a motivated and proud teamwork environment with ownership in workmanship. Encourage two-way, open and friendly attitudes at all times. Be approachable and listen to employees Work out and implement standard Work Instructions for production operations and ensure that they are adhered to Monitor the production processes and adjust schedules as needed Ensure efficient collaboration and co-ordination between relevant departments including Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Logistics and Management Determine and implement improvements to the production process Monitor scrap material costs and find ways to improve and minimize Ensure rework is complete and quarantine is kept to an acceptable operating level Be on call 24 hours per day for emergencies Responsible for adhering to OSHA and EPA regulations Actively participate in the cross-management team in achieving world class performance in safety, quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement activities Follow and support Magna Body & Chassis Iowa’s and Magna’s operating principles Support efforts to achieve department and plant goals on Employee Opinion Survey Resolve personnel problems by analyzing data; investigate issues; identify solutions; recommend action Address complaints and resolve people problems; interview, hire, and train employees; conduct performance reviews, reward and discipline employees Support and comply with all TS16949 & ISO14001 procedures and work instructions

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manage and supervise production employees in a production environment Manages all three shifts consisting of Supervisors, Team Leaders, and direct production employees

Qualifications: (These qualifications represent the minimum requirements of the position.  Employees will be required to possess the ability and aptitudes to perform the duties proficiently)

Education and/or Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Degree in business administration, management, engineering, industrial technology or related field or combination of education and experience preferred but not required
  • 5+ years’ experience in a production manufacturing environment with supervision responsibilities

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to problem solve
  • Intermediate computer skills required
  • Ability to communicate with others, both verbal and written
  • Able to prepare, read, write and interpret reports, instructions, procedures and business correspondence
  • Able to clearly and effectively address and respond to questions from a variety of audiences
  • Able to manage and schedule multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Able to work flexible hours to be available to three shifts
