This position will be responsible for the creation of product requirements for all products including hardware, software, reagents, and consumables. This position will be the voice of the customer throughout the product lifetime. Responsibilities include leading customer development activities, analysis and decision making based on the collected data, competitive analysis and driving the creation of new product requirements.

Professional Qualifications

Education

B.S. or M.S. in life sciences discipline. MBA preferred but not required.

Experience

  • Ten (10) years of experience in sales and/or applications and field support of molecular biology reagents or instrument systems; or ten (10) years of experience in new product development, preferably in the life science marketplace, spanning conception through launch (instruments or reagents).
  • Five years or more experience working with research and development.
  • Five years or more experience in business analysis (marketing, market research, finance).
  • New product development in the life sciences.
  • Familiarity with the capital equipment sales processes and customer support.


Position Responsibilities

Specific

  • Be the primary launch plans author for assigned products to help enable success in the marketplace. The launch plan will include ROI, market size assessment, competitive analysis, strategic marketing, product positioning, product definition and requirements, product pricing, and all other elements required to ensure successful product launches.
  • Coordinate successful product releases with cross departmental groups.
  • Conduct market research to identify and track market trends in company's industry including competitive analysis of instrumentation, software, reagents and methods.
  • Cooperate with applicable departments in the product definition and release of OEM products.
  • Collaborate with customers in the development of new applications for new products. Manage relationships to encourage publications, assay development, new product evaluations, testimonials, presentations, etc.
  • Work with Marcom in the creation and release of new protocols, methods, publications.
  • Participate in Market Research efforts to determine product concept viability.
  • Identify and establish marketing collaborations that support product line development and expansion.
  • Work with all business components (NA, Europe and International) to establish sales strategy and transition technology to the marketplace in concert with the Sales force.
  • Identify new products and applications based upon industry expertise to sell into new and existing target markets and customer segments.
  • Identify and develop current and new target markets to expand sales of current products.
  • Identify and develop new customer segments to expand sales and services into existing accounts.
  • Maximize product profitability.
  • Support sales personnel and distributor personnel on technically related issues.
  • Collaborate with marketing communications to define promotional strategies.
  • Draft and review selling materials.


General

  • Seeks to understand from market research activities including VOC activities, web surveys, customer interviews, market report analysis, journal articles, newsletters, product literature and other sources to maintain an up-to-date understanding of the current biotechnology market landscape.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with customers to better understand their needs.
  • The position will involve domestic and international travel.
  • Sedentary Work-Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Other job duties as assigned.
