Position Summary
Our Senior/Expert Product Specialists leverage their wealth of experience to bring ideas to life for our factories. As part of the Technical Applications Group, you will create the flavors, shapes, and textures often ideated by marketing and so enjoyed by pets. In this role, you'll handle various intermediate-term product developments and engineering processes for the business, as well as provide technical support to manufacturing operations. You'll leverage your sharp science background, combined with food processing and formulation experience to be able to effectively qualify new raw materials and suppliers. With your understanding of raw material and product functionality, you will define and optimize processes including dry blending, extrusion, drying, and coating to consistently deliver safe, compliant, quality, nutritional products. You'll identify and lead performance, waste reduction, and quality improvement projects to help us remain a leader on the shelf.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage development, scale up and implementation of new and existing technologies to improve the performance of existing products and develop new products
  • Explore innovative application of pet food product/process possibilities based on current state-of-the-art food technology
  • Serve as technical resource for marketing to develop a robust pipeline of product development opportunities, which includes developing technical project plans and timelines for all assigned projects
  • Leverage food processing expertise to advance operational standards and training for extrusion, dry blending, drying, and coating processes
  • Apply deep technical expertise to projects and challenges, demonstrating highly developed problem-solving skills and applying sound methodology to deliver an optimal solution.
  • Support product formulation including appropriate ingredient, nutritional, regulatory, and analytical requirements
  • Act as ingredient lead for all assigned ingredients/raw material including qualification of new raw materials and suppliers
  • Proactively monitor and provide product maintenance for assigned product responsibilities requiring standardized scientific procedures
  • Initiate and implement cost reduction ideas for assigned product lines and factories


*Approximately 40% travel required
**Perform all other duties as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM)

  • Education: Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Extrusion/Food/Grain/Meat Science or related scientific discipline
  • Experience (Years/Type): 1+ years' experience in product development (food), formulation, and scale-up
  • Preferred: 5+ years' experience in product development (food), formulation, and scale-up
