OVERVIEW

We’re looking for a Senior Manager of Product & Technology Communications to tell compelling stories about the growing product development and behind-the-scenes innovation happening at Instacart, with the goal of raising awareness for the Instacart App and educating the public about how this work ties back to Instacart’s broader business, mission and vision.

Our mission is to create a world where everyone has access to the food they love and more time to enjoy it together, and we’re looking for exceptionally talented Communications team members to help support the business. Instacart’s growing Communications team has four key practice areas - Corporate Communications, Shopper Engagement, Consumer PR and Employer Brand- all of whom work collaboratively to tell the Instacart story to our customers, shoppers, current and future employees, advertising partners and retailers. This role will report to the Director of Product & Technology Communications and is based in the Bay Area.

ABOUT THE JOB 

  • This newly-formed role represents Instacart’s second-ever product-focused communications hire, focused on shining a spotlight on the innovative new products and features Instacart is launching for consumers across North America.
  • The ideal candidate has 10+ years of previous experience in product communications, with at least a portion of that experience having been in-house. We’re looking for someone who is a nimble and creative storyteller, has a penchant for cross-team collaboration, a proactive and energetic posture, impeccable judgment and writing capabilities, and the ability to weave seamlessly between consumer product and technology-focused subject matters.
  • The Senior Manager of Product & Technology Communications will play both support and leading roles in communications campaigns, partnering closely with the Director of Product & Technology Communications to tell stories about new product and feature launches within the Instacart App and the technology innovations that power the Instacart experience.
  • Success in this role entails:
    • Working closely with product development, marketing, and others across the Communications team to bring new features and innovations to market, elevating Instacart’s product story internally and externally.
    • Ideating and executing on compelling and creative product communications campaigns from start to finish, including: working with internal teams to source tech and product stories; developing written materials including communications plans, messaging, talk tracks, FAQs, external materials (press releases, statements, blogs, op-eds, presentations), in-app messaging, customer emails, internal communications, etc; and leveraging existing tech, business and mainstream media relationships to elevate consumer product awareness and coverage.
    • Fostering relationships with key media and acting as an effective company spokesperson, including serving as point of contact with press on customer product and tech innovation-related coverage, with a bias towards being in the news every day.
    • Media training and prepping key product and technology leaders and placing executive profiles, bylines and high-level speaking opps that further our company narratives and drive awareness of the robust product development and innovation happening at Instacart.

ABOUT YOU

  • The ideal candidate has: 
    • 10+ years of relevant PR experience 
    • Prior in-house experience is preferred, with a significant portion of time spent focused on corporate and product communications in consumer tech.
    • Experience with an on-demand economy company is ideal but not required.
    • This position is ideally based in San Francisco, CA.

    • Tech-fluent, with experience working alongside engineering/product teams and the ability to write for a technical audience and translate technical content for a general audience.

    • Outcome-focused and motivated by delivering measurable results
    • Trustworthy and able to keep highly sensitive information confidential
