The GPP meat purchasing office is looking for a Global Meat Buyer responsible for national level meat purchasing - the meat purchasing function is designed to support the meat category plan, including product mix, pricing strategy, promotional plans and merchandising directions.
This position is located in Austin TX reports to the GPP Meat Team Leader.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Meat Buyer will source product weekly for all regions. This includes placing orders, purchase orders, pricing confirmations and managing inventory.
  • Supplier program negotiations that support category plans, including: rebate programs, volume programs, pricing strategies and promotional items.
  • Promotion Planning: develop effective item and category promotional plans through historical and market trend analysis and review.
  • New item sourcing, review, negotiation and roll-out as specified in category plans.
  • Maintain and generate order guides.
  • Focus on delivering improved cost of goods to all Regions.
  • Communicate effectively with National and Regional Meat Buyers and Suppliers.
  • Help create a fun, exciting and positive atmosphere within the GPPO purchasing office.
  • Assist with outside sales.
  • Create weekly product reports emphasizing attributes.
  • Flexible schedule (early morning and occasional late night calls) and willing to travel.
  • Provide support for meat coordinators and suppliers in the collection of pre-defined compliance documentation.
  • Run item or category reports as needed.
  • Team player! Whatever it takes to get the job done!
  • Stay ahead of meat trends and share that info with the regions
  • Vendor paperwork. This includes applications and other needed information.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Minimum five years progressive meat industry retail experience and purchasing background equivalent, including understanding of meat terminology and industry standards.
  • Proactive, positive, and self-initiating attitude.
  • Team player: Must have a team focused attitude.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Commitment to accuracy and excellence
  • Broad-based culinary knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of the natural and organic meat industry. Love to eat meat is a plus!!
  • For internal candidates, recommendation from the regional meat coordinator or team leader is a must.
  • Ability to solve problems practically and consistently where limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret instructions in a variety of formats.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to effectively manage portfolio pricing and promotion strategy to deliver consistent value to the customer and meet team financial goals.
  • Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Excel and Word, and Outlook.
  • Basic understanding of P3 operational tools. (not required)
  • Excellent analytical, organization and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Ability to participate effectively in building a strong global meat purchasing team.
  • Ability to effectively support team, regional & national vision.
