The Business and Market Opportunity

Enterprises of every size and across every industry are investing to become digital businesses, by delivering new applications and services for their customers and employees. This is accelerating the transition to multi-cloud computing, as they adopt 2 or more public clouds or service provider clouds, continue to scale their existing data center environments, and expand into edge/remote environments.

Across this distributed environment, they need to have the flexibility to build, run, connect, secure, and manage their portfolio of applications at the optimal location, based on the needs of the business. And, from an IT perspective, they need to both give the business the ability to modernize quickly, while also running their infrastructure cost effectively, with the highest SLA's, security, and operational discipline.

The Cloud Infrastructure Business Group is responsible for defining and delivering VMware Cloud, a multi-cloud computing infrastructure software service, bringing together compute, storage, networking, and management services, that enables a compatible computing environment across on-prem private clouds, hyperscaler public clouds, service provider clouds, and edge clouds to meet these needs.

Role Responsibilities

The Director of Product Market Strategy for CIBG is responsible for leading market strategy, business analytics , growth initiatives across the CIBG product portfolio for our $6+ billion cloudinfrastructurebusiness spanning on-prem private and local cloud, hyperscaler-based public cloud, managed service-provider clouds, and edge cloud . This business group includes approximately 4,000 employees.

This role will be on the staff for the leader of Market Strategy and Commercialization for CIBG and manage a team of 5-10 people.

Job Roles and Responsibilities

Market Strategy:

  • Lead CIBG business engineering to define growth vectors and levers for the CIBG product portfolio, that maximizes business results across customers, consumption, and revenue
  • Lead business velocity initiatives with cross-functional stakeholder alignment in Product, Marketing, Sales, Channel, and Customer Success
  • Identify and communicate business insights to support optimizing business results



Business Analytics:

  • Deliver regular industry and market insights to help shape business strategy, risks, opportunities and growth plans
  • Define and deliver focused analytics that deliver end-to-end insights across demand, pipeline, deals, customers, consumption
  • Data driven insights on installed base, workloads, customer and market segments and trends
  • Perform continuous business health measurement, root cause and early warning with trends



Market Development:

  • Serve as the CIBG lead to partner with Sales, Channel and GTM organizations in business growth planning and execution
  • Partner in driving strategic planning and growth targets as part of the quarterly , annual and long-range planning process across the portfolio
  • Evaluate new markets , business opportunities , improvements aligned with product focused growth



Required Skills

  • 10+ years of experience in Technology Industry, focused on technology segment and product , market strategy areas
  • Strong background in Engineering, Product Management or Product Marketing roles in Software preferred
  • Deep understanding of Cloud Infrastructure markets , products and business dynamics
  • Ability to create customer-facing presentation content independently, author detailed market research documents
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills, comfortable delivering stage presentations to large audiences on an international scale.
  • Solid knowledge of the IT vendor ecosystem.
  • Intellectual curiosity & willingness to take ownership of deliverables.
  • Excellent leadership qualities, including the ability to inspire and motivate a large cross functional team. This person must be a hands-on leader, willing to personally contribute to the success of the organization.
  • The person must have a strong work ethic, expressing dedication to the business and pursuit of the agreed-to business agendas.
  • BSCS degree or equivalent, MBA required.
