General Description

The Product Stewardship and Regulatory Affairs Regional Manager, EMEA is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable chemical and product safety regulations across the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region. This role provides strategic regulatory guidance to support business growth, product innovation, and market access while minimizing compliance risks for paints, coatings, and related products. The manager partners closely with R&D, commercial, supply chain, and manufacturing teams to monitor regulatory developments, implement compliance programs, and advocate company positions with industry associations and regulatory authorities. The position also leads regional product stewardship initiatives and drives a proactive culture of regulatory excellence, product safety, and sustainability.

 

Position Description and Primary Responsibilities

  • Implement product stewardship & regulatory policies, procedures, processes, and initiatives to support and enable commercial business and operations within the region. 
  • Monitor relevant regulatory activities within the region provide assess new regulations that may impact Axalta in a timely manner, supported with full impact assessments and other information as appropriate.
  • Provide guidance to the appropriate business functions regarding new standards/legislation and the potential impact on our business operations and our overall strategy.
  • Work in conjunction with the global PS&R director and other regional teams to develop product registration strategies that enable business strategies for new product introduction.
  • Ensure compliance with regional and local regulations related to hazard communication, substance registrations, required reporting and other requirements specific to the region.
  • Respond to customer-driven product stewardship needs across the segments and support operations within the region to ensure no negative impact on commercial or manufacturing operations.
  • Represent the company in regional industry associations and/or government agencies to represent Axalta’s position on relevant issues and provide key insights into corporate advocacy objectives.
  • Provide functional and program guidance to the product stewardship and regulatory team within the region, including the training and development of the regional PS&R staff. 
  • Responsible for investigating and reporting on Product Stewardship Incidents to identify root cause, and analysis to determine potential preventive measures, and timely communication of key facts to functional management and legal representatives.
  • Develop and track leading and lagging indicators to gauge performance and understand trends to improve functional efficiency or effectiveness of the regional team.
  • Lead efforts to identify and implement consistent best practices from the standpoint of effective and efficient tools, as well as standardized practices and processes.
  • Ensure necessary information systems and tools are in place and maintained to meet requirements for Product and Global Chemical Data Management and Reporting

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science discipline (e.g. Chemistry, Biology, Toxicology, Engineering) 
  • 10-15 years of work experience in a regulatory or product stewardship program function
  • 5-10 years of work experience in the coatings and/or similar specialty chemicals industry
  • 5-10 years prior direct and indirect managerial responsibilities
  • Experience with product management and product development processes
  • Proven ability to think strategically and complete strategic assessment of regulatory, business and market trends
  • Demonstrated ability to make improvements to work processes, managing the changes through effective communication and persuasion
  • Experienced in assessment and interpretation of complex regulatory and market drivers
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively through all levels of an organization in a clear and concise manner
  • Development and deployment of effective communication strategies, with the ability to lead, motivate and participate in diverse, cross-geographic teams

  • In depth knowledge of applicable EMEA regulatory requirements (i.e. REACH) and related issues
  • Effective change management skills and demonstrated ability to lead and inspire positive change within an organization
