Key Functions
The Product Owner is a key member of the delivery team, responsible for defining, prioritizing, and delivering product capabilities that support mortgage servicing operations and technology modernization initiatives. This role brings deep knowledge of mortgage servicing business processes and systems, and works closely with business stakeholders, engineering teams, architects, and program leadership to translate business needs into clear, actionable product requirements.
The Product Owner owns the product backlog, ensures alignment with business outcomes, and drives delivery of high‑quality solutions that meet operational, regulatory, and customer needs across the mortgage servicing lifecycle.
Roles and Responsibilities
Product Ownership & Backlog Management
- Develop, refine, prioritize, and validate the backlog for the designated scope areas based on customer discovery efforts performed by the client product manager.
- This position will be embedded in the agile team and accountable to the client product manager for backlog quality, readiness, and alignment to customer outcomes.
- Write software requirements in accordance with the client’s defined methodology, ensuring clarity, traceability, and readiness for development.
- Translate servicing business needs into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional requirements.
- Continuously refine and prioritize backlog items based on business value, risk, dependencies, and stakeholder input.
- Ensure alignment between product vision, roadmap, and delivery plans.
Mortgage Servicing Expertise
- Apply deep understanding of mortgage servicing operations, including payments, escrow, customer service, default, loss mitigation, and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with servicing stakeholders to identify gaps, improvement opportunities, and automation candidates.
- Ensure solutions align with servicing workflows, compliance requirements, and operational realities.
Delivery & Collaboration
- Work closely with the client’s engineering and testing teams to validate successful delivery of user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Clarify requirements, answer questions, and make timely decisions to unblock delivery teams.
- Accept completed work and ensure delivered functionality meets defined requirements and quality standards.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and delivery teams.
- Advise the client on how artificial intelligence can enable and enhance the customer’s technology delivery strategy.
- Be available approximately once per month to travel to the client’s location for in-person collaboration and planning (each, an “On-Site Visit”).
- Facilitate requirement workshops, backlog grooming sessions, and product reviews.
- Communicate progress, risks, and dependencies to stakeholders and program leadership.
- Ensure stakeholder alignment and manage expectations throughout delivery.
Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure product capabilities meet regulatory, compliance, and audit requirements applicable to mortgage servicing.
- Support testing, UAT, and validation activities.
- Incorporate feedback from users and stakeholders into backlog refinement and future enhancements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of product management and delivery practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar role supporting mortgage servicing.
- Strong knowledge of mortgage servicing operations, systems, and regulatory considerations.
- Demonstrated experience writing user stories, acceptance criteria, and managing Agile backlogs.
- Experience working with Agile/Scrum teams and delivery methodologies.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands‑on execution.
Preferred Qualifications or Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience working with mortgage servicing platforms (e.g., MSP, Sagent, LoanSphere, or similar)
- Experience supporting large-scale servicing transformations, migrations, or regulatory-driven initiatives
- Experience using project management tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Smartsheet, or Microsoft Project
- Consulting or professional services experience supporting mortgage servicing clients
Position Details
- Employment Type: Full-Time, W2
- Location: 100% Remote (US-based)
- Hours: 40 hours/week with flexibility to support project needs
- Start Date: ASAP
- Travel: Occasional travel may be required based on client and project needs
- Salary: $100,000 – $130,000
