Overview: A Product Owner works closely with prospects and customers, internal customer support, sales, but most of all engineering teams to guide new features and products from idea to release by working with scrum teams to define and execute changes to products. A Product Owner spends much of the time working to understand key customer workflows to identify gaps, create solutions to solve problems that drive value, translate business needs and technical requirements into epics for scrum teams to execute, and deliver solutions to make customers happy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive the Agile software development effort by acting as the voice of the customer to define and clarify user stories with the scrum teams through ongoing team collaboration, business acceptance testing, use case development and data analysis
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to further define the product strategy and vision. Partner with services, sales, and development teams to act as the voice of the customer and to channel feedback, mediate, and drive consensus between these groups
- Partner with the Product Manager to manage and prioritize the backlog based on the agreed product roadmap
- Participate in agile ceremonies - daily standups, sprint kickoffs, user story grooming, sprint reviews and retros.
- Maintain the product backlog and support the product team in daily activities including backlog grooming, defect prioritization, and establishing clear system behaviors. You ensure the team is aligned with the product’s vision and long-term objectives.
- Participate in customer interviews and partner with product manager in requirements gathering and discovery work.
- Translate complex business problems and technical requirements into well-defined epics and user stories
- Determine MVPs (Minimum Viable Product) and break items out into key phases and deliverables
- Work with UX/UI team to ensure workflows are meeting accessibility and usability standards
- Oversee the development pipeline including UAT to ensure the business units are aware of development releases and approvals are provided
- Work with customer service, marketing teams and QA to successfully release new versions of products as well as create sales and training materials around the new versions
- Constantly review the competitive marketplace and products
Role Progression:
Within 1 month, you will:
- Complete new hire onboarding, including eLearning courses, instructor-led training, and more
- Train on Litera’s core values and get an overview of our solutions
- Meet team members and review goals, initiatives, and specific objectives
- Meet with Key Stakeholders: Build relationships with internal stakeholders (engineering, marketing, sales, customer support, executives) to understand their expectations and priorities. Review and understand core market problems, value propositions, and features of the product
- Learn our current product roadmap
- Learn the product roadmap creation, development, and release processes
- Drive Backlog Refinement: Take full ownership of the product backlog. This includes setting priorities, refining user stories, and ensuring that epics and features are clearly aligned with business and customer needs.
Within 3 months, you will:
- Have developed a deep understanding of the products your teams create and support.
- Become an autonomous member of the Product team and independently plan work to meet deadlines
- Plan your first release with Product Managers and Engineering
- Create internal documentation and conduct internal training on new features and functionality
- Report progress on sprint and release goals
Within 6 months, you will:
- Collate your own operational and product insights to promote continuous improvement and foster a kaizen culture
- Own Sprint Execution: By this time, you are actively driving sprints, ensuring the team is delivering high-value features on schedule. You’re removing roadblocks, providing clarification, and ensuring smooth collaboration between teams
- Develop strategic relationships with key stakeholders across the business
- Ensure that your backlogs are refined such that they have a rolling runway of at least 6-9 months in accordance with the product roadmaps
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years+ of experience as a product owner in agile environments, although more experience is welcome
- Strong/high English proficiency. You must have excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to take complex business requirements and translate them to a form that is widely understandable
- Tech savvy and passionate about building products.
- Product management or development process knowledge, including but not limited to having a certification on Scrum methodologies (eg. CSM, CSPO or PSM)
- Experience of working in the legal or legal technology industries is desirable, especially experience with Knowledge Management or Marketing and Business Development use cases. Microsoft Add-In development a plus.
- Comfortable using collaboration and CRM tools such as Teams, M365, JIRA, Confluence and Salesforce.
- You can think through and advise about how minor changes or requests can have strategic impacts across all levels of the business
- Metrics-driven: Strong analytical and synthesis skills are a must, including the ability to absorb and process large amounts of data into actionable information.
- You are comfortable speaking with a wide range of stakeholders, willing to travel when appropriate, and able to seek out conversations and discussions yourself
- You are self-motivated with curiosity about how our customers work, and passionate about delivering great user experiences
- You are comfortable balancing competing priorities while working with and solving problems for customers. You do not shy away from awkward situations or being clear when you cannot commit to something
- You have attained a bachelor’s degree or higher
