The Role

Deimos is a Cloud-native Developer and Security Operations technology services company.  We help companies of all sizes adopt the Cloud for improved service delivery to their clients. We’re a fully remote African-based team passionate about implementing engineering best practices. We leverage the latest technologies, and build globally competitive solutions for our clients. With Deimos being one of the two moons of Mars, we like to refer to ourselves as “Martians”, who are on a mission to Mars, together.

Our teams value the ability to learn and adapt to technology changes while appreciating solid foundational design and the craft of software engineering. As such our teams enjoy working with various clients who have different problems to solve. If this sounds like you then you would be an ideal fit for our environment.

Note: You must be based in one of the countries we currently hire in — in Africa or the UK.

Role Overview

We are building an innovative delivery management and data platform to optimize for delivery experiences across South Africa. Our solution includes a mobile app (iOS and Android) and web application that enables communities to automatically gather, analyze, and share real-time delivery data. Currently in stealth mode, this project transforms manual delivery requests and communication updates into a digital, data-driven platform and streamlines the end-to-end experience.

The product works across WhatsApp, Android, iOS and Web collecting real-time delivery data, transforming it into visual insights for businesses to manage customers and orders, Turning business workflows and customer updates into a streamlined scalable solution.

We’re looking for a Product Owner who’s great at turning early ideas into clear, structured tickets. You’ll keep documentation tidy and up to date by mapping out flows, edge cases, and dependencies, so the dev team always knows what to build and why.

This product needs someone who understands how to connect technical workflows and the user needs  and can turn that understanding into structured, build-ready plans that evolve the entire solution

You will be required to work closely with the product strategies who owns and defines the product vision.

You’re responsible for turning the vision into tangible user experiences through:

  • Interpreting rough wireframes and creative concepts into structured, build-ready documentation
  • Asking thoughtful questions to fill in UX and logic gaps
  • Helping validate flows against edge cases and technical constraints
  • Defining alternate paths like empty states, failure states, and error handling
  • Maintaining clear flow maps or outlines to support developer execution
  • Collaborating closely with the UX strategist to evolve product flows during implementation

We’re building something unconventional and meaningful — if you’re excited to turn early-stage ideas into usable, scalable product features, you’ll thrive in this role.

What will you be doing

  • Own the product backlog: write clear, detailed, and actionable user stories with acceptance criteria and edge case handling. Ensure that the backlog can tell a story of the development journey and is always kept up to date as the single source of truth

  • Run sprint planning and grooming sessions, by ensuring that requirements and outcomes are clear

  • Continuously prioritize and refine features, bugs, and tech debt items to ensure delivery cadence
  • Track progress of the product roadmap and align the entire Product, Design and Engineering team on what’s in scope, what’s next, and what’s done and how we will get there

  • Manage and mitigate risks that may hinder the team and the product product progress by keeping key stakeholders in the loop and proactively seeking feasible and viable solutions to keep the entire product at low or no risk
  • Coordinate day-to-day with dev, QA, and data collaborators, acting as the central source of truth for delivery
  • Triage bugs and unblock developers, owning daily prioritization
  • Support sprint retrospectives and help implement process improvements
  • Collaborate with QA to clarify test cases, review feature completeness, and ensure shippable quality
  • Coordinate internal release readiness, defining what’s shippable and when
  • Validate UX flows against edge cases and tech limitations
  • Maintain structured flow maps or outlines to support clarity across the team
  • Define alternate paths and fallback states based on UX intent
  • Work closely with the UX strategist to evolve product flows during dev cycles

You’ll Thrive in This Role If You…

  • Have 5+ years experience as a PO or similar, ideally in a fast-moving or startup environment
  • Can bridge the gap between product thinking and developer execution with speed and clarity
  • Are a clear, structured communicator with strong documentation and organizational skills
  • Understand how to build for scale, even when working from a messy MVP starting point
  • Love shipping and iterating, not just planning
  • Are comfortable owning backlog hygiene, sprint workflow, and delivery velocity
  • Enjoy working autonomously or with regular alignment — your call

Bonus Points For

  • Experience with WhatsApp integrations, chatbots, or messaging-based interfaces
  • Familiarity with Delivery apps, Sensitive community data, or last mile delivery applications

You’ll Be Successful Here If…

  • You’re allergic to vague tickets and love bringing clarity from chaos
  • You treat delivery management like a craft — clean backlog, clear scope, and no dropped balls
  • You don’t just follow process — you refine and improve it

You’re excited to work on meaningful, novel tools that serve communities directly

What We Offer

  • Fully remote work environment, offering flexibility and work-life balance.
  • Opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients and cloud technologies.
  • A forward thinking remote company that knows how important it is to stay connected as one team, by providing virtual social platforms for employee engagement.
  • A collaborative and supportive team culture.
  • Continuous professional development opportunities.
  • A monthly work from home allowance which you can use to set yourself up to work comfortably from home. Whether that is pens, notebooks, or new headphones.
  • A MacBook or Windows laptop for you to do your best work on.
  • Become part of a team of exceptionally clever and talented people who like to share their knowledge and learnings.
  • We support your career growth and love to celebrate your successes and advancement!
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
