Summary Generated by Built In

Viam is the engineering platform for robotics and automation, empowering developers, startups, and enterprises to build, deploy, and scale—from prototype to production. Our platform makes robotics development accessible to software engineers, removing traditional barriers to building production-grade automation. We're also pioneering surface finishing automation for marine manufacturing, with solutions for robotic sanding that automate critical processes in roles that are physically demanding, safety-critical, and hard to fill. We were founded in 2020 by former MongoDB co-founder and CTO Eliot Horowitz, Viam is headquartered in New York City.

Product Operations EngineerWhat You'll Do

We're looking for a Product Operations Engineer to own user research, proactive user engagement, and the data operations that help us build better products faster. This is a hands-on role where you'll conduct user interviews, build systems to identify opportunities in our user base, maintain data quality, and make direct product improvements. You'll have the autonomy to identify what needs to be done and the technical chops to do it yourself.

User Research & Engagement
  • Own end-to-end user research: recruit participants, conduct interviews, synthesize findings into actionable improvements.
  • Build tooling to identify and reach users at key activation moments (e.g., first live robot, published module).
  • Drive improvements to completion.
Data Operations & Insights
  • Maintain data hygiene and build dashboards that surface actionable insights.
  • Track product health metrics, activation funnels, and usage patterns.
  • Maintain product usage pipeline and CRM data.
Product Contributions & Tooling
  • Make direct product improvements: enrich metadata, fix UX friction, update documentation.
  • Write code to build internal tools, automate workflows, and improve team productivity.
  • Identify gaps and ship solutions independently.
What We're Looking For

Required:

  • 3-5+ years in product operations, user research, or analytics roles.
  • Experience conducting and synthesizing qualitative user research.
  • Comfortable with outbound outreach and talking to users regularly.
  • Coding ability to build tools and queries with LLM assistance.
  • Self-starter who identifies problems and executes solutions independently.
  • Strong communication skills to translate user feedback into product requirements.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in developer tools, robotics, or B2B SaaS.
  • Background in PLG or growth operations.
  • DevRel or technical community management experience.
What Success Looks Like
  • First 90 days: Establish regular research cadence, build your first user identification system, ship product improvements from research insights.
  • First 6 months: Become the go-to source for "what are users actually experiencing?" and drive measurable improvements in activation and product quality.

What We Do

Robotics has the potential to do so much good, but progress has been slowed by complicated hardware and software integrations, long development cycles, and people's fear of tripping over a robot on their way to work.

At Viam, we’re addressing these issues by building a novel robotics platform that relies on standardized building blocks rather than custom code to create, configure and control robots quickly and intuitively. We’re empowering engineers - aspiring and experienced - across industries to solve complicated automation problems with our innovative and developer-friendly software tools.
