The Role
The Product Manager will lead product strategy, manage product development processes, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to innovate and improve products.
Summary Generated by Built In

Switchboard is looking for an experienced Product Manager to join our growing team. Now in our third political campaign cycle, Switchboard has a rare combination of a powerful product suite already trusted by thousands of campaigns and organizations, a true tech startup mentality with a product development focus not found in most other Democratic tech teams, and the resources to invest in growing and strengthening the team. All of this has allowed us to not just focus on winning elections in the short term but also on long-term sustainability for the movement.

As a Product Manager, you’ll play a major role in developing new products at Switchboard and adapting our existing ones to meet new demands and possibilities. In particular you’ll focus on how Switchboard can expand as a platform, through building out our API, enabling a broader range of integrations, and helping our users make sense of all of the data they have. We’re looking for a Product Manager who has experience in early stage organizations (our team is about 30 people). Experience working on or for campaigns is helpful but not required.

This role reports to the CTO.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Translate business strategy into product strategy, ensuring we are solving the right problems in a scalable way, and developing roadmaps in partnership with Switchboard leadership to execute on this strategy.
  • Have an interest and experience in breaking new ground, whether that’s through innovating on new products or harnessing the possibilities of new technologies such as LLMs.
  • Lead one of our “pods” (cross-functional development team) in partnership with engineering managers, working closely with individual engineers as well as data and design counterparts. This includes leading the planning and execution of projects for the pod, working with others to assess impact and feasibility, understanding technical/design/operational tradeoffs, and making decisions to set the priorities and scope.
  • Foster a team atmosphere both within your own product team and with other product leaders and teams at the company.
  • Define how we will measure the success and effectiveness of our products and drive the execution and continuous evaluation of those metrics.
  • Partner closely with our customer experience team and incorporate customer feedback and needs into the product roadmap.
  • Help establish and contribute to our product development processes, where we continuously build, learn, and iterate as we work towards better outcomes for our users. This also includes best practices around testing, quality, security, and automation to help reduce errors and maintenance costs.

Ideal Candidates Will:

  • Have 5+ years experience as a Product Manager, with a proven track record of managing and evolving a product portfolio and/or driving product vision and strategy at a tech company.
  • Be comfortable applying a combination of qualitative and quantitative inputs to assess impact, make decisions, and evaluate success.
  • Quickly build domain expertise through understanding our customers’ use cases (in particular if they don’t have political experience), and think strategically about how to best address a wide range of user needs with technology solutions.
  • Have experience with a range of product development processes, while not being dogmatic in their approach, understanding that the right processes and systems depend on the team and circumstances. In general we follow an iterative approach to product development, constantly deploying new changes and maintaining high agility to be able to learn and shift course as needed.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, often leading discussions and synthesizing complicated product decisions and plans into easily digestible formats.
  • Have excellent project management skills, to drive the execution of projects in a detail oriented way, ensuring the who/what/when/why/how across the team is clear.
  • Have some experience writing and reading code, whether that’s as a full-time engineer, or on side projects trying to implement something using an API, or just reading a codebase and asking an LLM questions about it.
  • Be comfortable taking on projects in new areas for them, learning quickly to develop the expertise and execute on those projects without the support systems offered at large tech companies, and often needing to make decisions without perfect information.

Compensation

  • $185K - $225K annual salary and an equity grant depending on experience
  • Switchboard covers 100% of health, dental, and vision coverage for employees and 80% for dependents
  • 21 days of paid time off plus federal holidays
  • Unlimited sick leave
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave for parents of any gender, including adoptive parents
  • 401(K) match with immediate vesting

Diversity

We believe the best products and companies are built by diverse teams where everyone’s perspectives are heard and respected. We strongly encourage people of color, LGBTQ+, women, and members of other underrepresented groups to apply. Even if you’re not sure if the role is a good fit, please apply! We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities in the hiring process and on the job.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the US. Unfortunately we're unable to sponsor work visas at this time.
