The Role
Manage iFixit's whitelabel and third-party tool resale program: research product gaps, source and negotiate with domestic and overseas manufacturers, build landed-cost models and pricing, guide products through compliance, packaging, barcodes and launch, evaluate samples, and monitor sales, margins, re-sourcing and end-of-life decisions.
Summary Generated by Built In

iFixit is the nexus of a global community showing people how to fix the things they own. We believe that we can make the world better by empowering people to take control of the things they own. We are the world's foremost experts in repair, and we've set the gold-standard for online repair documentation. Every day we help thousands of people fix their stuff, and we’re on a mission to help millions more.

We're looking for a talented, business-minded person to manage iFixit's whitelabel and third-party tool resale program. iFixit engineers most of our own tools, but a significant portion of our catalog comes from established manufacturers whose products we whitelabel or resell because they're genuinely the right tool for a repair. As a product manager, you'll be working alongside the engineering, procurement, and compliance teams to find gaps in our catalog, source manufacturers, negotiate deals, and manage roughly products from first sample through launch.

Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Research the repair market and our own catalog for product gaps worth filling, and write the proposals that make the case
  • Source manufacturers (domestic and overseas), and negotiate pricing, MOQs, tooling, and payment terms
  • Build landed-cost models and propose retail pricing across our web store, Amazon, and wholesale
  • Guide each product through compliance, packaging, barcodes, and launch
  • Evaluate product samples hands-on
  • Monitor sales and margins, and drive price changes, re-sourcing, and end-of-life decisions

Before applying you should possess:

  • Experience sourcing product and negotiating with overseas manufacturers
  • A head for the business side: market research, negotiation, margin math
  • Clear written communication, especially with non-native English speakers
  • Ability to manage many projects simultaneously
  • Excellent spreadsheet skills

Candidates get bonus points for the following:

  • Experience with product lifecycles, BOM management, revisions
  • Private-label or store-brand program experience
  • Experience with NetSuite or another ERP
  • Familiarity with consumer product compliance (REACH, Prop 65, safety certifications)
  • Amazon marketplace and GS1 barcode experience

Some key personality traits that we'd like to see:

  • Self-motivation and diligent work ethic
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Passionate about repair
  • Creative problem solving
  • Ability to learn new things very quickly
  • Ability to work well with others, accept feedback, and change directions if needed

iFixit’s Expansion to Chattanooga: Our roots are in the California technology startup world, but our passion is tinkering. We are thrilled to be joining the making and manufacturing culture of Tennessee.

We are excited to have moved into our eastern distribution hub and headquarters! We've built a 50,000 square foot flagship location blocks from downtown in the historic Onion Bottom neighborhood on 12th street.

What We Do

Fixit is a global community of people helping each other repair things. We believe that repair reduces e-waste, saves people money, and teaches engineering. Fixers from all over the world have helped us write thousands of repair manuals for everything from cellphones to appliances to clothing. Why do we do it? Because most companies—even those that make great products—don’t provide repair parts or repair documentation. Too often, people don’t have the means to repair their broken stuff and needlessly buy new things. We want to stand up against the throwaway culture. Everyone should have the right to maintain and fix what they own. And we need everyone's help to do so. Nobody knows how to fix everything—but that’s okay. Most people know how to fix something. Maybe it’s a scooter, a game console, or a stapler. Show us what you know. Collaborate with other fixers everywhere. Join the millions of people who are fixing their things. Write a repair guide, participate in our forums, and tell us your stories. It’s time that we reconnect with our things, understand how they work, and make them useful for as long as possible before we safely recycle or repurpose them. Together, we can repair the world—one repair manual at a time.
