About Smarter Grid Solutions

Smarter Grid Solutions, a Glasgow-based cleantech company and subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric, develops software to manage and integrate renewable energy resources such as wind, solar, energy storage, and flexible demand. Our flagship product, Strata Grid, enables network operators across the UK, North America, and Europe to connect more energy resources to their grids.

We're driven by a mission to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy through practical, cost-effective solutions. Our diverse team brings together expertise in power systems, software engineering, system integration, and project delivery.

About the role:

Smarter Grid Solutions is hiring a Product Lead to join our Product Management Team. We're developing the next generation of our Strata Grid platform for Distributed Energy Resource Management, alongside new software products for our parent company, Mitsubishi Electric Power Products.

We're also expanding into Data Centre Information Management Systems, integrating MEPPI’s Critical Power Solutions with broader data centre assets—leveraging our deep expertise in energy resource management.

This is a pivotal role, reporting to the Chief Product Officer, with line management responsibilities and a broad remit across product ownership, marketing, and strategy. You’ll collaborate with leading subject matter experts and engage directly with one of the world’s most recognised technology brands.

If you thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and want to be part of a mission-driven team with a strong culture, we’d love to hear from you.

Responsibilities and Objectives

As Product Lead, you’ll support the Chief Product Officer in delivering SGS’s product strategy by:

  • Collaborating on a clear, value-driven product marketing approach.

  • Establishing and championing an end-to-end product management process to support marketing, sales, and business development.

  • Communicating product roadmaps and development plans across SGS’s portfolio.

  • Building cross-functional alignment through shared processes while maintaining product-level focus.

  • Coordinating our Subject Matter Experts to inform strategy, roadmapping, and sales enablement.

  • Acting as internal product owner for the DCIM initiative with Mitsubishi, guiding early-stage ideation and development.

  • Working with the Chief Product Officer and Chief Technology Officer to ensure software development stays on budget.

  • Leading change through influence—aligning stakeholders, driving accountability, and turning complexity into action.

Responsibilities

As a result, key responsibilities include:

  • Line management of selected Product Management team members.

  • Define, track, and report KPIs for the product suite, with monthly updates to the CPO.

  • Maintain up-to-date product roadmaps and release plans, leveraging input from the Technology team and SME pool.

  • Coordinate SME contributions to product marketing, sales, and business development.

  • Monitor key customer requirements and work with SGS and Mitsubishi Electric sales teams to proactively prepare for RFPs and new opportunities.

  • Act as the primary contact for Mitsubishi Electric on the DCIM initiative, owning related processes and serving as Product Owner.

  • Collaborate with the UX Lead to deliver user-centric products with standout workflows and experiences.

Objectives:

  • Define and report monthly KPIs across the product suite to the CPO.

  • Embed UX as a core element of our products—particularly in the configuration and operation of Strata Grid 4.

  • Deliver on DCIM goals through close collaboration with Mitsubishi Electric and the SGS Product Development Team.

  • Refresh and implement product management processes, with ownership of key areas agreed with the CPO.

  • Lead the delivery of Product Management contributions to marketing, sales, and business development through strong process leadership.

Key Skills and Experience:

Product Management Experience

  • Strong academic background in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a product development environment, including 3 years as a Product Owner or Business Analyst working with advanced software systems—or equivalent experience in energy sector consulting within a product-focused company.

  • Proven track record in leading and scaling product management across a portfolio of products, ideally in high-growth or complex environments.

  • Ability to define product vision and translate it into actionable roadmaps—combining strategic insight, operational planning, and cross-functional communication.

  • Deep understanding of Agile methodologies, with the flexibility to adapt frameworks to suit different teams and business contexts.

  • Proficient in tools such as:

  • Aha! for strategic planning and roadmapping

  • JIRA for backlog and sprint management

  • Confluence for documentation and knowledge sharing

  • Miro for collaborative ideation and stakeholder engagement

  • Strong market analysis skills—able to interpret data, identify trends, and apply insights to strategy and product marketing.

Line Management Experience

  • Effective workload management and clear communication of team objectives.

  • Skilled in handling challenging situations with integrity and emotional intelligence.

  • Inclusive and empathetic leadership style.

  • Experience in conflict resolution and appropriate use of organisational support systems (e.g. HR, Occupational Health).

  • Committed to individual development through feedback, delegation, and one-to-one support.

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Comfortable mentoring across product and development teams, promoting best practices and continuous improvement.

  • Collaborative and confident in engaging with product, marketing, sales, and senior leadership—both within SGS and Mitsubishi Electric.

  • Strong leadership and motivational skills, with a focus on empowerment and team engagement.

  • Consistent delivery against milestones and deadlines.

  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams in parallel.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly.
