Product Engineer

Charter:

Design and ship the first products that replace lab and animal toxicity experiments with accurate AI while also building the next generation of internal tooling for ML research.

What are we looking for:

At the highest level, we only want to hire people who deeply inspire us and relentlessly push us to be better. They must level up the entire team, bringing significant energy and a sense of awe. High agency is critical: they see what’s important and they do it. Doing is the key but it should be guided by great taste for what truly matters. We’re looking for folks doing those niche hobbies and activities, the ones that might not make sense at first glance, but eventually reveal profound depth and passion when you dive in with them. These individuals act with intentionality or whimsical naivety like an immigrant in a new country, a performer trying to break out, or someone teaching themselves to code or garden. There must be a deep curiosity for all facets of Axiom, an ambition fueling their exploration of what we do. They want to do something here, to dive in headfirst, but they know they need to learn more, so they search with an insatiable hunger. They need to be cracked, technically excellent, obsessive masters of their craft. They're irrational; they could work in big tech, but they know it will not satisfy them. They want the pain of doing something brutally hard along with the riches and glory when it finally works.

What you will do:

• Lead Axiom’s products and internal tooling for complex scientific data visualizations and machine learning research

• Build the core foundations of web applications which can process and display massive amounts of complex data

• Work with internal and external teams to develop the best software that scientists have ever used in their lives

• Architect and implement full-stack product systems from customer data storage, data visualization, product flows, auth, deployment, testing, etc

• Manage enterprise customer workflows from workspace creation, deployment, onboarding, and maintenance for the largest companies in the world

• You will be the design architect for a product that changes how science is done and for next generational tooling for ML/data research

• Own all things design at Axiom, with a focus on product and internal tooling design

  • Work closely with internal scientists and external design partners

  • Map out how people interact with our product, what they value and how we help them realize that value

  • Build the visual brand & design system as we go

• You are in the trenches and in the loop working with AI researchers day in & out, using great tooling to discover how emerging biological AI capabilities scale

We’re especially interested in:

• Full-stack engineers who are 70% frontend and 30% backend

• Typescript, Svelte 5, Sveltekit, React, NextJS

• Python, FastAPI, DuckDB, Postgres, Modal, Ray

• [Optional data visualization] D3, SVG, Vega, Three.js, Webgl, WebGPU

What we look for:

• Simplified extremely complex problems with great software; ability to work with a massive amount of complex scientific data

• Deep pride for the portfolio of great software they’ve built

• Built and deployed production software systems used by large enterprise businesses or great machine learning teams

• Maintained and onboarded production customer workspaces and data for mission critical clients

• Has a knack for surfacing the important/interesting product questions related to user needs

• Great taste in brand and visuals

• Sharp and confident

  • keep up with a really technical & sophisticated crowd

  • comfortable getting in over their head and figuring it out as they go

  • navigate & make sense of a complex conceptual + data landscape

• Curious about how things work: has an engineering / tinkering mindset, is good at scavenging the state of the art
